Book week, author visit, and book fair, oh my!

Last week was jam-packed with all things books and reading as we celebrated Book Week from 24–28 August!

We kicked off the week with a very special visit from beloved Australian author and illustrator Leigh Hobbs, creator of Old Tom, Mr Chicken and many more iconic characters. Leigh had our students on the edge of their seats as he shared his stories, showed us how to draw his famous characters, and even taught us how to create our own! We were incredibly lucky to welcome Leigh to our school for the very first time.

Throughout the week, students enjoyed a fantastic range of literature-based activities, including some special Leigh Hobbs-themed activities. There was plenty of creativity, imagination and, of course, reading!
We finished Book Week last Friday with a bang, beginning with our annual Book Week Assembly, expertly MC'd by our amazing Mrs Vorester. Our students arrived ready to show off their favourite book characters in wonderfully creative costumes and ensembles, while our staff once again pulled out all the stops with some fantastic group costumes!

We also announced the winners of our Best Dressed, Book Cover Design and Bookmark Design competitions.
A huge congratulations to...
Book Cover Design: Eva S (4E), Shnaya G (6B), Diana S (4C), Diyana A (6D)

Bookmark Design: Harvey S (PA), Sara Z (2B), Joshitha K (1C)

The assembly wrapped up with our much-loved Book Week Parade, with students and teachers dancing through the aisles and proudly showing off their amazing costumes. It was the perfect way to celebrate a wonderful week of books!

As we head towards the end of term, we're excited to announce that the Scholastic Book Fair has returned! 🎉
This week and early next week, students will have the opportunity to visit the library and explore the fantastic selection of books and stationery available. (Keep an eye on Compass for more information!)
Parents are warmly invited to visit the Book Fair with their children after school on Monday 7 September and Tuesday 8 September, from 3:30–4:30pm, to browse and purchase books together.
Cheers to another year of reading!
