Book Week 2026 Symphony of Stories
Children's Book Week 2026 in Australia runs from Saturday, August 22 to Friday, August 28. The official theme is "Symphony of Stories," illustrated by award-winning author-illustrator Briony Stewart. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Children's Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Awards.
- Theme: "Symphony of Stories"
- Focus: Celebrating how voices, characters, and illustrations come together like an orchestra to create a love of reading.
Yesterday we were lucky enough to welcome "Perform Education" as a warm up incursion to the upcoming Book Week celebrations. The performance "Something Special" showcased some of the short-listed books as a fun musical. The themes illustrated included cooperation and compromise. Great concepts to discuss with your children.
During Book Week at OHR we:
- have a Book Week Parade. Children dress up as a character from a favourite book. This is on Monday 24th August at 8.45am in the hall. All welcome!
- have activities in the Library led by the student Library/Arts leadership team for all students at lunchtimes.
- celebrate the Year 6 Picture Book Launch in the Library (Year 6 families only)
- listen to the Year 6s share their stories in every classroom of our school
- Year 6s visit local kindergartens to read their stories.

Growing Minds – Building Growth Mindset, Resilience and Wellbeing for Learning
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Learning Snapshot yesterday morning.
It was wonderful to come together and explore how we can work in partnership to help our children become confident, resilient and capable learners. We hope you found the conversation around growth mindset, the Learning Pit, wellbeing and learning valuable, along with the practical strategies shared to support children as they face challenges, learn from mistakes and persevere. Below is the presentation and the take away sheet for your reference.
We greatly value your partnership and your commitment to helping our children learn, grow and thrive.
