Applied Learning

In Applied Learning classes, it becomes apparent that not only are skills and knowledge transferable across situations, there is always opportunity to learn new things. Ryan has had a quick lesson on aquarium water quality and live plants being crucial to healthy fish. Our beautiful yet unnamed angel fish (perhaps we call it 'Fisho' if he is male, or 'Angel' if she is female) is so much happier that this attention was given. A one third water change, glass clean, and new plant out of a variety of plants was carefully carried out by Ryan. Not only that, he learnt that indoor plants thrive from the nutrient rich tank water, re-using this too.
With an effort to build team work and culinary skills, Friday's class were split into groups last week. Their challenge this time was to create a dish, inspired by the cookbook 'Just five things'. A quick check of the Joseph Centre pantry for ingredients and an inaugural online shop/delivery experience for Ms Mackay, had the teams ready in no time at the kitchen benches. The best dish this week went to Leon and Daniel for their visual and enticing sausage rolls. The best team went to Thanuga and Steven, who communicated well throughout their preparation and cooking of a Capsicum Omelette, something neither had cooked before. Their clean up was impeccable to say the least.
