From the Principal

Dear MPS Families,

Hopefully the long weekend provided families with a welcome mid-year pause, offering opportunities to relax, reconnect and enjoy some time together.

With only three weeks remaining in the term, there is still plenty to look forward to at MPS!

LIGHTS, CAMERA, TRIVIA!

One of the most anticipated events on the MPS social calendar is almost here – our Hollywood-themed Trivia Night on Saturday 20 June.

Last year's event was a blockbuster, and this year tickets sold out in record time as families rushed to secure their place at what promises to be another unforgettable evening.

Parents and carers will take centre stage as the stars of MPS, enjoying a night of laughs, friendly competition, fundraising fun and Hollywood glamour. With movie-inspired tables, creative costumes, trivia battles and plenty of surprises, the evening is set to deliver entertainment from the opening scene to the final credits.

If the excitement surrounding ticket sales is anything to go by, this year's Trivia Night is shaping up to be our biggest hit yet.

What are we raising money for?

This year, funds raised through Trivia Night, together with proceeds from our next year’s School Carnival, will contribute towards the refurbishment of our STEM learning space. This exciting project will ensure the space is fit for purpose and ready to support an expanded STEM program from 2027, providing our students with even greater opportunities to explore, create, problem-solve and innovate.

MARKET DAY

Our Year 6 students recently put their economics learning into action through the highly successful MPS Market Day.

Working as young entrepreneurs, students researched their target audience, developed products and services, created marketing campaigns, and applied key business skills including budgeting, pricing, advertising and customer service. Throughout the process, they tracked expenses and income, analysing profit and loss to evaluate the success of their ventures.

Market Day is always a highlight of the school calendar, with creative stalls such as Sugar P.A.L's, Hairpop, Wonderland Craft Shop, Wheel of Luck and DKM Handball attracting enthusiastic customers from across the school. The creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit on display were outstanding.

Beyond raising funds for the Year 6 Graduation and the MPS Year Book, Market Day provided an authentic and engaging opportunity for students to apply their learning in a real-world context, developing valuable skills in teamwork, problem-solving, financial literacy and entrepreneurship.

REPORTING

Semester One Reports will be released via Compass in the final week of the term on Wednesday 24 June.

While written comments will not be included in this reporting cycle due to the recent industrial action and negotiations between the Department of Education and school staff, families will continue to receive a comprehensive picture of their child's learning and achievement.

In addition to the Semester Report, parents and carers can access the Compass Continuum, which provides detailed information about the Victorian Curriculum learning outcomes their child has consolidated, as well as those they are continuing to develop. This valuable tool offers greater insight into individual student progress and helps families understand their child's learning journey beyond the achievement standards reported in the semester report.

PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent-teacher interviews provide a further opportunity for families to discuss their child's achievement, growth and next steps for learning. Teachers will be available to discuss both the Semester Report and your child's progress against the Compass Continuum, ensuring parents have a clear understanding of their child's strengths, areas for continued development and future learning goals.

Parent-teacher interviews will be held on Monday 20 July and Wednesday 22 July. Booking details will be communicated via Compass following the release of Semester Reports.

WEBSITE AND CHATBOT

With so many wonderful programs, events and initiatives happening at MPS, families often ask where they can find information once Compass posts have expired.

As we continue to refine our website, our aim is for Compass to provide timely updates, reminders and event information, while the website serves as a central source of detailed and ongoing information about our school, programs and processes.

To make finding information even easier, we have recently introduced a website chatbot. Simply click the chat icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the website and ask your question. The chatbot can help locate information and direct you to the relevant webpage for further details.

As our chatbot is still learning, we encourage families to give it a try. Your questions help us identify gaps in our website content and improve the chatbot's accuracy and usefulness over time.

Tax-Deductible Parent Contributions

As we approach the end of the financial year, we would like to remind families that voluntary contributions to our Building Fund and Library Fund are fully tax-deductible.

These contributions make a significant difference to our school. They provide valuable additional funding that allows us to continually improve our facilities, grounds and learning resources for all students. Families who have been part of our school community for several years will have seen the many enhancements made possible through the generosity of parent contributions.

If you are considering making a contribution before 30 June, now is an ideal time to do so. Receipts are issued for all donations for taxation purposes.

To check the status of your contributions or to learn more about how these funds support our school, please contact the school office.

PREP ENROLMENTS

The school follows the state-wide transition process therefore parents must submit their enrolment application online by using this link by Friday 31 July. You will need to sign in with a Service Victoria account to complete the online application form.  This includes siblings of students already in the school. As our school is under an enrolment management plan, we are restricted to accepting those who live within the school zone, unless vacancies become available. We will only know of vacancies following the submission of enrolment applications.

Parents will receive written notification of the enrolment outcome between Monday 3 August and Friday 14 August.

Please don’t delay:If you have a child commencing prep next year and you want to enrol your child at our school, please do not delay in submitting your application.
