A Message from Ruth

This term our classes are focusing on being Creative. So many great skills come out of creativity including persistence, curiosity and independence.

Creative play is an important part of children’s learning and development. Activities such as drawing, painting, building, imaginative play, music and outdoor exploration encourage children to use their imagination, develop problem-solving skills, build confidence, and strengthen social and communication skills. Vital skills for now and in the future.

While technology can offer learning opportunities, it is important to limit screen time and encourage a healthy balance of activities. Too much screen time can reduce opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, creativity and quality family time.

At home, you can support your child by offering open-ended activities, reading books together, enjoying outdoor play and providing opportunities for arts and crafts. Even simple everyday activities can inspire wonderful learning!

Have a good week everyone.

Before school reminder

We'd like to remind families that the school yard is not supervised until 8:30am when the first bell goes. Students should either be at OSHC or at home before this time! Please do not drop children to school before 8:30 am. If you need to drop your children to school before 8:30 on a regular basis, please book them into OSHC.

Of course, we understand that on the rare occasion you may need to drop your children off a few minutes early. In these instances, they are allowed to wait up on the steps and seats right next to the planter boxes. Please remind your children to go straight there, and not to play on the playground, since this causes a child safety issue for us.  Thank you!

Drink bottles, please!

Lately, we have a large number of children arriving at school without a drink bottle. It is really important that every student has a drink bottle every day, especially coming into the warmer weather.  If you could help your children to remember to bring theirs that would be terrific. Thank you!

Candle Dipping at Uraidla Show

It's that time of year.....The Parents and Friends are hosting the Uraidla Show Candle Dipping Stall again and are asking for donations of your time. If you are able to spare some time on Sunday, 1st November, to help out on the stall, it would be greatly appreciated. Please head to the link below and follow the outlined steps to sign up. First in best dressed for the time slots so don't delay!

https://signup.com/go/PEvcDbj

How it works:

• Please click the link and see a list of hourly time slots from 8 am to 5 pm. Each slot needs two volunteers.

• 8–9 am is stall setup and 4–5 pm is pack down. The slots in between involve collecting money and showing children how to dip candles.

• To sign up, choose a slot and enter your name, email and phone number. There's no account or password needed.

• you will get a confirmation email, plus an automatic reminder before your shift. You will also be able to see who else is on that shift and swap or cancel your spot if plans change.

Uraidla Primary Facebook Group

If you haven’t already heard about it, there is a Facebook group for UPS families, and we welcome everyone to join (parents/grandparents/carers all welcome). Look for “Uraidla Primary School Families” and answer the 3 simple questions on your connection to the school. This group is a friendly way to find the answers for those questions you may have (e.g. when your child tells you at the last minute its casual day tomorrow, and you can’t remember hearing about it from school!), to get reminders on events coming up, find your lost property!, or a way to connect with other families.

It is not run by the school but is supported by the UPS Governing Council, and parent admin (Jodi Braley) will post information regularly. It is designed to be a group with input from all – so contribute in any way you want to. If you do have a question that you don’t want to post yourself, feel free to forward to Jodi (either by Facebook message, email jodi.braley@hotmail.com, or in person at school), who is more than happy to help.

Enrolment in Reception

If you have a child turning 5 in the next 12 months, they should have already enrolled or registered their interest to start school.  Children either start school at the start of the year or in July, depending on their age.

Please note that the Kindy and school zones are not the same. Enrolment in the Uraidla and Hills Community Preschool does not automatically mean you will have access to enrolment at Uraidla Primary School. Please contact our front office for clarification.

Our school has now reached capacity, which means that we give priority enrolment to children in our catchment area. Please note that younger siblings of existing students are guaranteed enrolment.

If you are speaking to other families about enrolling in school, they can find their local school through the Find My School website: Find a school zone or preschool catchment area (education.sa.gov.au)

Enrolments for the start of 2027 are now overdue, and we hope to have enrolments for the mid-year 2027 intake finalised by February. Please contact the front office for a registration of interest form today!

If you are still unsure or interested in booking a school tour, please contact the office on 8390 3209.
