Mandarin (Prep)

This term in Mandarin, Prep students have been bringing traditional stories to life. Through stories including 乌鸦喝水 (Wūyā hē shuǐ), The Crow Drinks Water and 孔融让梨 (Kǒng Róng ràng lí), Kong Rong Shares the Pears, students have listened for familiar words, used actions, sequenced picture clues and retold important events. Most recently, they have begun exploring 曹冲称象 (Cáo Chōng chēng xiàng), Cao Chong Weighs an Elephant. Along the way, students have practised vocabulary such as 水 (shuǐ) water, 石头 (shítou) stone, 梨 (lí) pear, 大 (dà) big and 小 (xiǎo) small, while discussing ideas such as clever problem-solving, kindness and sharing. In the coming weeks, they will build on this learning by retelling and role-playing the stories they have explored.

Physical Education (Year 1 and 2)

During PE this week, students began learning about the team events for Sports Day. Students began the lesson with a game of 'stuck in the mud', learning to dodge opponents and recognise space. After, children started their first team event number soccer. Children were split into four teams and were lined up behind their team's goal. Players would wait for a number to be called and run to the middle and aim to score against another team. The team that scored first would gain a point. Finally, children were split into two teams to play a game of dodgeball. Children aimed to throw the foam soft ball and at an opponent to get them out. Children were practicing their throwing, dodging and catching skills in this team game.

Visual Art (Year 5 and 6)

The Year 5 and 6 students are currently working on their Personal Projects! This term, the main focus is creating a Personal Project artwork, where students have the freedom to choose what they would like to create. They spend one week planning their ideas, three weeks bringing their artworks to life and two weeks preparing to present their finished pieces.

This week, students continued working on creating their artworks, experimenting with a wide range of materials, including acrylic paint, spray paint, cardboard and even toilet paper! Their creativity has impressed me so much, and I can’t wait to see them share their fantastic artworks with the class!
