Class Celebrations

Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...

Prep

This week in Maths, Prep students have been learning all about money! They learnt to recognise and identify different coins and notes and compare their values. Students practised counting money, adding amounts together and working out how much money was needed to purchase items. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they develop these important everyday skills.

Year 1

On Monday, the Year 1 students enjoyed an exciting woodworking incursion! Students were given the opportunity to choose their own car design and use hammers, nails and blocks of wood to build their very own cars. The teachers were so impressed with how carefully and confidently the students worked, especially as it was the first time using a hammer for some students! It was wonderful to see everyone giving it a go, showing persistence and developing their new skills. Well done Year 1's on your fantastic efforts!

Year 2

Our Year 2 students thoroughly enjoyed their visit with Bernard Caleo, linked to our English Unit: Author Studies. Bernard is a Melbourne-based comic artist and storyteller who introduced our students to Kamishibai, a Japanese form of storytelling also known as ‘paper theatre’. Through his engaging performances, Bernard brought stories to life and showed students how pictures and words can work together to tell a story. Students loved watching the stories unfold and learning about this unique art form. We look forward to seeing our students use their imaginations to create their own stories and comics, inspired by Bernard’s visit.

Year 3

In Science, our Year 3 students have been learning about the water cycle.  Within the water cycle, students have learnt the definitions of evaporation, condensation, precipitation, infiltration and collection. To demonstrate their learning, students created their own water cycle in a ziplock bag. Students drew and labelled the water cycle on the outside and filled it with water. Our Year 3 students are excited to watch their water cycles move through the stages.

Year 4

On Wednesday the Year 4 students had a fantastic time aboard a Melbourne river cruise, learning all about the Yarra River and its important place in our city. They represented our school beautifully, showing curiosity and enthusiasm as they completed a scavenger hunt and asked great questions to discover new facts along the way. It was lovely to see the students so engaged in their learning while enjoying the sights of Melbourne from the water. The excursion was a wonderful way to bring our Humanities unit to life and build on the learning taking place in the classroom. Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who were able to join us on the day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Year 5

In our Humanities Unit, "Discover Democracy", students have been learning about the levels of government, and how laws are made. During our Humanities Incursion this week students got the chance to vote in a class election, and then play a role in a House of Representatives roleplay, including a Prime Minister and Speaker of the House.

In Science, students have been learning about space in their Our Place in Space unit. The students have enjoyed learning about space

Year 6

During our recent PSC lessons, Year 6 students have been learning about what it means to create an inclusive school community. Students explored the differences between prejudice, stereotypes and discrimination, and discussed how these can impact others.

Students then put their learning into action by advocating for inclusion and creating posters to display in our classrooms. We were so impressed by their messages and designs. Thank you Year 6 for contributing to make our school a welcoming and inclusive place!
