Scripture Reflection
“A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up…” Matthew 13:3–4
In this Gospel reading, Jesus tells the Parable of the Sower. He sits in a boat while a large crowd gathers on the shore to listen. Using a story about a farmer scattering seeds, Jesus reminds us that God's Word is like a seed planted in our hearts.
The different types of soil in the story represent the different ways people respond to God's message. Sometimes our hearts are open and ready to listen, just like rich, healthy soil where seeds can grow strong. Other times, we might be distracted, worried, or too busy to really hear what God is saying.
This Gospel invites us to ask ourselves:
- Am I taking time to listen to God's Word?
- How can I make my heart a place where kindness, love and faith can grow?
- What is one way I can live out Jesus' message this week?
Just as a tiny seed can grow into something wonderful when it is cared for, God's love can grow in us when we listen, pray, and choose to show kindness to others. May we all strive to be "good soil," allowing God's Word to take root in our hearts and bear fruit in the way we love, serve and care for those around us.
