Teaching and Learning
Term 2 has continued our strong momentum in Teaching and Learning, with a focus on deepening practice and supporting both teachers and students as they prepare for the next stage of their learning journeys.
A key priority this term has been working closely with our Year 10 team. Through 1:1 coaching, we have supported teachers to strengthen VCE and VM readiness skills in their classrooms, helping ensure students are building the confidence, independence and academic habits needed for senior pathways.
Alongside this, there has been a deliberate focus on building student learning stamina. Teachers have been supported to gradually increase expectations around sustained focus, task completion and perseverance, helping students engage more deeply and productively in their learning.
Instructional observations have continued to be an important part of our work, providing regular opportunities to notice effective practice, share feedback and celebrate growth across Years 7–12. These short, focused visits remain valuable in keeping our approach consistent and responsive.
Overall, Term 2 has been about refining and embedding what works, while continuing to support teachers in practical, targeted ways. It has been great to see the positive impact in classrooms, particularly in the growing confidence of our Year 10 students as they prepare for what comes next.
Student Voice: CARE Captains
It has been an exciting and action-packed Term 2 for our Student Voice Team! Here’s a snapshot of everything that's happened across our school community.
Senior Camp – A Great Start to Term 2
At the beginning of the term, our senior students enjoyed an unforgettable camp experience at Phillip Island.From team bonding to outdoor challenges, highlights included surfing at Safety Beach, where students pushed themselves outside their comfort zones and built lasting memories.
Radio Western Port Sessions and Visits within local community
A big thank you to Mr. Eklund and Mr. Yuan, who have continued to run our fortnightly Radio Western Port sessions.These sessions provide students with a fantastic platform to share their voices and develop communication skills.
The Student Voice Team recently partnered with the Wellbeing Team to participate in a Hastings community visit, alongside our CARE Captains. As part of Families Week, we spent a fun and meaningful afternoon connecting with members of the local community. Students demonstrated leadership, kindness, and collaboration while engaging in activities that celebrated family and community spirit. It was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen community connections and showcase the positive impact of student voice in action.

- Hosting a Fun Activities Week for Year 10 students
Marrung: Walking together in Term 2
The WPSC Marrung Team continues to make a significant impact, recently being named a finalist in the Secretary’s Marrung Awards for System Leadership, an outstanding recognition of their commitment to advancing Aboriginal education outcomes.
The team also shared their expertise at the Government Principals Conference, presenting a workshop on working alongside Traditional Owners, further strengthening cultural partnerships across the sector.
Adding to this momentum, Ganga Giri led an inspiring Grade 4 Transition Event, where more than 300 primary school students came together during Reconciliation Week to engage in meaningful activities focused on teamwork, communication and building new connections!
Reconciliation Week was a highlight of the term, providing a meaningful opportunity for our whole school community to reflect, learn and engage. Students and staff took part in a range of activities that deepened understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives, while reinforcing the importance of respect, truth-telling and ongoing reconciliation.
A particularly proud moment this term has been the leadership shown by Jett Thompson (Year 9 Marrung CARE Captain). Through our LEAP classes, Jett has been working with Year 7 and 8 students, sharing cultural knowledge and helping to build understanding in a way that is authentic, engaging and student-led. His confidence and willingness to take on this role has made a strong impact, both in strengthening cultural awareness and in inspiring younger students.
Across the term:
Students and staff have continued to participate in excursions and incursions that deepen cultural understanding and build connection to Country
The Western Port Mob has met weekly, remaining a safe and welcoming space for students, while also inviting allies to listen, learn and engage
Our Koorie workforce continues to strengthen our work, with Pippa Campbell leading curriculum implementation across Years 7-12, Western Port alumnus Nash Jones supporting student engagement, and Mark Thomas (Headspace Hastings) continuing to support First Nations mental health.
This term has been a powerful reminder that Marrung is not a standalone initiative, but a shared responsibility embedded in our everyday work. It has been inspiring to see students, staff and community members continuing to learn from one another and walk forward together.
