Year 6 Gala Day Wrap-Up!  by Remy, 6A

On Friday 12 June, the Grade 6s went out to compete with other schools in AFL 9s, Soccer and Netball. With AFL 9s going to McDonell park in Northcote, Netball and Soccer both went to Narrandjeri Stadium on Darebin Road to compete.

The AFL 9s team started off with a bang, beating Fairfield Primary School 97-48 with modified rules because the proper umpire didn't show up. In the second game, we played Westgarth Primary School beating them, but the proper umpire came and then we had to stay in our zones.  We won against Wales Street Primary School too. That was the three games leading up to the grand final! We had made it to the grand final, and the game decided whether we would make it to Divisionals. 

We were playing Fairfield Primary School and the team that just came back from a 40 point deficit against Westgarth Primary School. Bell Primary made a great start leading in the first half, but then they had the wind coming back with us only having a 12 point lead. We held on and ended up winning by 12 points! We then celebrated by singing a song that was the Preston Bullants' song but changed to be the Bell theme song.  We also had some lollies to celebrate and took a nice photo of all the players on the bench.

The soccer team went out to Narrandjeri Stadium to play on the Astroturf. In the first game, our soccer team started with a win against Northcote 4-0. In the second game, Bell won 2-0. Then they tied, so they had to have a penalty shoot out in 4 shots. They won again and finally they played in the grand final. It was a really good game but sadly they ended up losing 1-0. The girls' team got through to Divisional! A shoutout to the boys’ team who also played well on the day! 

The netball teams also went out to Narrandjeri Stadium with the soccer players, but instead played in the basketball/netball courts. In the first round, the mixed team were defeated by Northcote, however they won their second match! The girls' teams A & C lost all their matches, however they played strongly against some really tall players! The mixed team got into the finals, however lost to Westgarth. Huge shout out to our amazing goal shooter, Timmy! 

In conclusion, the whole day was a massive success and a lot of fun! It was also great to have Ms. M and her son visit us!!! All the teams had a great day and good luck to the teams who made it to the next round.
