Music Wrap: What’s been happening in Music this term?
Prep students have been working on some of the foundations of music, learning about beat, pitch, tempo and dynamics. Did you know that tempo is the music word for the speed of a song? Well, the Preps do!
Grades 1 and 2 have been learning how to hold the ukulele properly and how to play some chords. They have been working towards playing a song called ‘The Funky Fish’.
Grades 3 and 4 have also been learning the ukulele, but have been concentrating on chord changes and strumming patterns. They’ve been working on a song called ‘Laze In The Sun’ and were able to choose which strumming pattern was just right for them.
Grades 5 and 6 spent the term working on electronic music and were lucky enough to have an incursion with Jason from Musical Futures International as part of the ASPIRE project. They used some small electronic devices by the music company Roland to experiment with drum machines and chord sequencers.
Grade 2 Arts Centre Excursion:
On Friday 12 June, students in Year 2 went on an excursion to see You & Me and the Land of Lost Things at The Playhouse, Arts Centre Melbourne. It was a very big day! To get to The Arts Centre, the Year 2s went on two buses. 2B and 2C went on one, and 2A went on the other. When we got there, we had a quick snack and toilet break, before entering the theatre. The play was very entertaining, and it felt magical. The best part of the show was when You and Me fought the pirate rabbit! When it was finished, we had another toilet break before heading back to school. By Theo W

The clay pieces were attached to cardboard tiles, where students explored a variety of painting techniques to create texture and dimension, including impasto effects and gloss finishes.
