155 Years of Boorowa Central School Celebrations
Last Saturday, between 600-700 guests visited our Open School as part of our 155 Years of Boorowa Central School celebrations.
Guests had the opportunity to see many model classrooms and interact with students and staff, reflect on their time at the school at heritage stops, view our memorabilia display in the library, purchase merchandise, grab a coffee and sausage sandwich whilst catching up with old classmates and teachers.
At 12pm, the school hosted a special presentation in the Hall which was jammed to capacity. Guest speakers Deb Valencic and Chris Grimson spoke of their time at the school as well as the junior captains and myself. Special guests, and oldest living ex-students Gloria Glover and Ruth Small, cut our celebration cake along with our youngest student Aria. To conclude the Open School formalities Gloria, Ruth and Aria also cut the ribbon to officially open our Commemorative Wall.
Guests were encouraged to remain until 3pm when the library closed and many took this opportunity to do so.
Celebrations continued that night at the Gala Evening which was organized by the 155 Years of Boorowa Central School organizing committee. 350 guests enjoyed continued catch ups and reminiscing about their younger years at Boorowa Central School.
The following morning was the last of the organized events with a BBQ brunch offered in the park.
It was a fantastic celebration all round and one that will be fondly remembered for many years to come by all involved.
Special thanks to the organizing committee for all of their hard work in the organization of the commemorative wall, merchandise, gala evening, collection of memorabilia and stories as well as all of the other jobs that were essential for the celebrations to be a success.
Special thanks also to the school team for organization of the open school activities and the grounds staff who worked for months to ensure the school was immaculately presented on the day.
Thank you also to Bendigo Bank of Boorowa for their support and Bunnings Warehouse in Young. Additionally, thank you to Camilla Duffy and Belle Riles for being our official photographers.
Here is a selection of photos taken on the day.
155 Years of Boorowa Central School – Polo Shirts
By now, all students and staff have received their gift from the school – their 155 Years of Boorowa Central School polo shirts. These shirts can be worn as normal school uniform and/or kept as a keepsake of the school's very significant milestone. I am very pleased with how they turned out – they look very smart.
SMArt and Drama
Despite the change to our annual SMArt and Drama evening, the event was an excellent showcase of singing, music, art and drama at Boorowa Central School. Thank you to the parents, carers and community members who joined us on the day and congratulations to the students who performed, MCed the event and who helped with the technical and back stage aspects.
Congratulations to Mrs Taylor for running your very first SMArt and Drama event – it was a hit.
Year 12 Graduation and final week activities
This week was Year 12’s final week of schooling at Boorowa Central School. They celebrated this with themed dress-ups each day as well as their Graduation Assembly on Thursday and muck up activities Thursday afternoon and evening. Staff hosted a Year 12 BBQ this morning as is tradition, before the Year 12 students reverse the ‘muck-up’ from the night before.
I encourage our Year 12 students to use their time wisely in the lead-up to their Higher School Certificate examinations to gain confidence and to maximise results. 16 October will be here before they know it.
Year 6 into 7 Transition – Day 2
On Tuesday, Year 6 students interested in transitioning to Year 7 at Boorowa Central School joined us for day 2 of Year 6 into 7 transition. They had the opportunity to sample Food Technology, Agriculture, History, PDHPE and a Q and A session with Deputy Principal Ms Mahoney. More about this in Ms Mahoney’s article.
Year 11 Preliminary Examinations last week
Year 11 students sat their final examinations of Year 11 which are called the Preliminary Examinations. These contribute significantly to their overall results in year 11 and success in these examinations indicates that a student has a solid knowledge base to build on in Year 12.
Thank you again to the Boorowa ex-services club for hosting these examinations.
Central Schools Touch Football Finals in Dubbo
Congratulations to the students who represented the school in Dubbo for the Central Schools Touch Football finals. The teachers spoke very highly of your sportsmanship throughout the excursion.
A special congratulations to our Under 16’s girls team who won the gold for being the best team in the state.
End of Term and Return to School
Today is the last day of school for all staff and students. I wish all our families a happy and safe school holiday and look forward to seeing you all again next term.
School returns for all students on Tuesday 14 October. A reminder that Term 4 is a ‘no hat, no play’ term.
