🌟 Boorowa Central School Lights Up the Stage at Southern Stars! 🌟Our first time in the arena — and we absolutely dazzled!

The curtains have closed on an unforgettable experience, and we are still buzzing with excitement! For the very first time, Boorowa Central School took part in the Southern Stars Arena Spectacular — and what a show it was!

Held in the vibrant heart of Wollongong, at the WIN Entertainment Centre, Southern Stars is a larger-than-life showcase of public-school talent, involving over 3000 students, featuring dazzling dance, moving drama, and powerful music performed to a live orchestra. Since 2001, over 50,000 students have taken to that stage — and this year, for the 25th anniversary show, our students joined that incredible legacy.

The 2025 theme was ā€œUnlimitedā€ – and our students embraced it with open arms, open hearts, and serious amounts of sparkles, sweat, and spirit!

šŸ’ƒ Who Took the Stage?

  • Our Year 5 & 6 superstars lit up the arena in the mass primary dance: Alice, Amelia, Maggie, Kayden, Tyson, Siarra, Digby, Joe, Tahnia, Tesi, Patrick, Madyn, Edie.
  • Our Year 8 to 11 legends wowed the crowd in the mass secondary dance: Casey, Mia, Lila, Belle, Finlay, Santahna, Mylee, IvyĀ
  • And our high school vocalists added magic to the mass choir, their harmonies soaring through the stadium: Kayla, Amali, Jaycee, Lisa, AnnabelleĀ

šŸ“… The Journey: 4 Days of Fun, Friendship & Fierce Talent

🚌 Day 1 – On the Road and Ready to Rehearse! The adventure kicked off before sunrise, with choir students rolling out at 5:30am and dancers following at 6:30am. After a much-needed breakfast pitstop in Goulburn, we arrived in Wollongong with excitement bubbling over.

While the dancers headed straight into the arena for intense rehearsals, the choir spent the day fine-tuning their vocals at Corrimal High. By late afternoon, we’d checked into our apartments, tossed our bags in our rooms, and hit the beach for some sunshine and sea breeze — ending the night with piping-hot pizzas served up picnic-style by our incredible Year 11 leaders. šŸ•

šŸŽ Day 2 – Hair, Makeup, Action! The sun rose over the ocean and our day began with a beach soccer match and breakfast in our rooms. Then it was full steam ahead: high school dancers curled, braided, glittered, and glammed up for a full stadium dress rehearsal, while the choir finally got their moment on the WIN Entertainment Centre stage.

Dinner was a cosy, pasta-filled night in with spaghetti bolognaise, and the evening was spent relaxing, stretching, and sharing stories about the day.

🌈 Day 3 – Showtime, Baby! Energy was through the roof — it was performance day! As our dancers waited in the WIN Stadium holding bay — they were treated to a front-row view of the St. George Illawarra Dragons NRL team training on the field! Talk about a surprise highlight! šŸ˜²šŸ‰

After a buzzing 11am matinee, students had a break to explore and unwind: primary students returned to the beach, collecting crabs and playing beach games, while our high schoolers hit the mall for a spot of retail therapy.

After a nacho dinner fiesta, it was back into costume for our first evening show — and what a show it was. Lights, music, movement, and magic!

🌟 Day 4 – Grand Finale & Good VibesThe final day began with a well-deserved sleep-in. Then it was on to another adventure: the choir ventured for a mall exploration, while our primary students visited the iconic Purple Parrot CafĆ©, sampling frozen yoghurt and trendy acai bowls like true beach locals.

Our high schoolers used the quiet morning to reset, catch up on schoolwork, with yr 11 prepping for upcoming prelim exams — still riding the high of the previous night's performance.

As the final curtain closed, a massive dance party was organised in the backstage loading docks, with students from across the state dancing together, swapping socials, and celebrating new friendships and shared memories.

Many of our families made the trip to Wollongong and were blown away by the professionalism, creativity, and passion shown by every student on that stage.

🧠 More Than Just a Performance

Southern Stars was more than sequins and spotlights. Our students walked away with:

✨ Greater confidence and self-belief✨ Stronger friendships and respectful teamwork✨ A deeper sense of belonging and connection✨ Artistic skills that boost learning across all subjects✨ And a lifelong memory of what it means to dream big and shine bright

INFANTS

What a huge finish to a big, busy and bright term for our Infants students.Ā  We loved having everyone, students, staff and families, rallying together to make our 155 Celebrations so fun and memorable both in the weeks leading up to it, and on the day.Ā  And of course, our Smart Drama Performance this week – so many excited people eagerly rehearsing and then performing yesterday. We are now all very much ready for holidays!Ā  Wishing all our students and their families and happy, safe and restful holiday time.Ā

Kindy/Year 1

How amazing were our K/1 penguins on Wednesday afternoon??! We have had great fun bringing out all our creative skills to put the little dance together, including prop making, waddling practice and painting icebergs and penguins in class. All students did a superb job of being a part of our performance – we spoke about a performance being ā€˜team work’ like a game of footy, and the students all rose to the occasion and gave it their best waddle!

Next term we will be straight back into the business and learning and having fun with our friends as we learn new skills and consolidate others.Ā  In the meantime, wishing all K/1 students a wonderful holiday break!

1/2 Classroom NewsĀ

As we near the end of Term 3, it’s safe to say that our 1/2 class has had a busy and brilliant few months! We’re all feeling proud of the hard work we’ve put in and are definitely ready for a well-earned rest and some quality time with our families and friends.

In Maths, we've been diving into measurement in lots of fun and hands-on ways. Students have explored area, length, perimeter, mass, and volume through engaging activities like creating masking tape shapes on our classroom carpet and using equal arm balances to compare the weight of everyday objects. Most recently, we began exploring fractions with a creative challenge, students designed their own pretendĀ pizzas to be shared between four people, each with different topping preferences. Each slice had to be unique, so we had fun splitting our pizzas into equal parts and deciding which fraction of the whole each person would get. A fun and visual way to understand sharing and equal parts!

In English, we’ve been deepening our understanding of narratives and character development. Students have been learning how to write rich character descriptions and create vivid stories using picture and video prompts. It’s been wonderful to see their imaginations shine on paper!

A highlight this term was our recent cooking session with Mrs Corcoran, where the class made chicken and broccoli meatballs, and they were a hit! All but one student gave them a big thumbs up. I think we may have a few new broccoli fans!Ā

Another proud moment was our SMART and Drama performance of The Day the Crayons Quit. The students put in so much effort preparing their artwork and rehearsing their parts, and their hard work really paid off. The performance was a big success and a definite highlight of the term.

In Sport, our students have been developing their skills in touch football and tennis. With the upcoming Touch Football and Netball Carnival, we’ve been practising working as a team, building confidence, and learning the rules of the game. In Gecko Sports, the ever-energetic Geoff has been teaching us how to hit forehand and backhand shots in tennis. The fun, fast-paced games have made learning these skills a weekly favourite!

It’s been a wonderful term full of learning, creativity, and growth. I’m incredibly proud of all the students in 1/2 for their enthusiasm and perseverance.

Wishing you all a safe, restful, and happy holiday break!

Kind regards,Ms Phoebe Wood1/2 Classroom Teacher

Year 2/3

We are coming to the end of a very busy term, our Year 3 students enjoyed a very busy day in Canberra for their Stage 2 excursion and our Year 2 students are eagerly awaiting their Stage 1 excursion in term 4. We have had Geoff coming in each Tuesday to teach us how to play tennis and I think we have some future Grand Slam winners amongst us. It has been so much fun learning our dance for our SMART performance, our dancing skills are top notch. In English we have read the novel 'The Callers' and 'The Little Refugee' by Anh Do and 'We are Australians', these texts have given us many topics to think about and discuss in class. In Maths, we have been focussing on our number work and improving our ability to recall times tables and number facts. We have learnt so much this term and we continue to improve every day. We are looking forward to more carnivals, excursions, swimming and learning next term.

Farewell from Mr Rowley

After four wonderful years at Boorowa Central School, it’s time for me to say farewell. This place has been more than just a workplace – it’s been a big part of my life. I’ve had the privilege of teaching some fantastic kids, sharing plenty of laughs, learning alongside them, and watching them grow into confident young people. One of the things I’ve loved most is bumping into my past students now at high school, they tower over me these days, but in my mind they’re still the same little kids who once needed help tying their shoelaces or lining up properly after recess.

I’ve enjoyed being part of so many things here, from classroom lessons to sports days, merit events, excursions, assemblies, and all the little everyday moments that make teaching such a rewarding job. There have been challenges along the way (what teacher doesn’t have a few grey hairs to prove it?), but the good far outweighs the tough days, and I wouldn’t trade the memories for anything.

I want to take this chance to thank all the parents and families who’ve supported me during my time here. Whether it’s been through a quick chat at the gate, helping out at events, or simply encouraging your children to give their best, your support has made my job that much easier and far more enjoyable. The wider Boorowa community has also been incredibly welcoming, and I’m grateful for the connections I’ve built here.

Leaving hasn’t been an easy decision, but I know the time is right. It gives me peace of mind is knowing that my current Year 3/4 class will be in excellent hands with Miss Laura Ewan. She’s a brilliant teacher who will no doubt continue to guide and challenge the kids in all the right ways. I’ve warned her that they come with a lot of energy, plenty of questions, and just a touch of cheekiness – but that’s what makes them such a great class to teach.

As I move on, I’ll carry with me the memories of this school, the funny moments in the classroom, the ā€œlightbulbā€ moments when something finally clicks, the pride of seeing kids achieve something they didn’t think they could, and the friendships I’ve made along the way. Boorowa Central will always hold a special place in my heart, and I look forward to hearing about the great things this school will continue to achieve.

I also want to recognise the amazing colleagues I’ve had the privilege of working alongside. The staff at Boorowa Central are some of the most dedicated and hardworking people I’ve ever met. Whether it was teaming up on sports days, supporting one another during busy times, or collaborating to ensure the best outcomes for students, their professionalism and commitment have always stood out. I have learnt a great deal from them – not just about teaching practice, but also about patience, resilience, and the value of teamwork. It has been an honour to be part of such a strong and supportive team.

Thank you again for allowing me to be part of your children’s lives and for making my time here so special. It has been an absolute privilege and pleasure to be a part of this community.Ā

Thank you,Ā

Mr Rowley
