Year 6 – 7 Transition

Our Year 6 students had a fantastic time at their second transition day as they continue preparing for high school life at Boorowa Central School.

The day began with roll call in the hall, correctly guessing the creative Year 12 movie theme dress-ups. In the Food Tech room with Mrs Golden, students cooked up a sweet storm of churros, which proved to be a big hit.

After lunch, they stepped into History with Miss Walls to unpack some fascinating myths, then discovered the impact sugar has on the body in PDHPE with Ms Bromfield.

The afternoon was spent on the Agriculture farm with Mr McDonald, where students explored the gardens and met the chickens, cattle and sheep.

It was another wonderful day of hands-on learning and new experiences for our future Year 7s. Student feedback is shared below.

What did you like about the day?

Tesi Roberts – I liked cooking because the churros were good and sweet.

Jacob Halls – Cooking food, touch footy, PDHPE, the teachers.

Alfie Shean – Cooking churros, learning about sugar, the two breaks, making a cure for the black plague.

Deon – A good thing about the day was PDHPE, where we learned how much sugar was in things like Coke and bread. It was lots of fun.

Bede Corkery – I really enjoyed the touch game at recess.

Toby Sharp – I think Boorowa is fun because we get to cook, and play time is fun. We played touch footy.

George Kelly – The breaks are good and fun. Cooking and football are fun.

Joyce Hawley – I enjoyed cooking because the food was yummy. I also liked History because we learnt about life or death.

Tahani Riley – Something enjoyable about today was food tech. It was really fun making churros and eating them.

Edie Wines – The breaks were fun, I got to see and play with my friends from 5/6 last year who are in Year 7 now. Cooking was also really fun, we got to make scrumptious churros!

Amelia Brown – I really liked cooking. I felt like in High School you can use lots of new things. Today was a great day, and I’m really excited for next year.

Brayden Shean – I liked playing touch and cooking the churros that tasted really good.

We look forward to the next two transition days on Tuesday, 2 December, and Wednesday, 3 December.

Trial HSC and Year 11 Yearly Examinations

This term, Year 12 students completed their Trial Higher School Certificate examinations and Year 11 students sat their yearly examinations. Teachers are proud of the commitment and effort shown by both year groups in their preparation and performance.

Exams were held at the Ex-Services Auditorium, which provided a quiet, comfortable, and welcoming environment. We thank the club staff for their support in creating such a positive setting.

We now wish our Year 12 students every success as they prepare for their final HSC examinations in October and November.

Driving Simulator Visit

On 15–16 September, Boorowa Central School welcomed a driving simulator, funded by the Rotary Club of Young, which provided Year 10 students with a valuable opportunity to experience real-life driving conditions in a safe, supervised environment.

Students were challenged with a range of hazards, including wet weather, heavy fog, icy roads, texting distractions, and even driving under the influence of alcohol. Many were surprised at just how significantly these conditions affected their driving and gained a greater appreciation for the risks involved.

The simulator featured triple-screen technology, a steering wheel, seat belt, gear shift, pedals, indicators, and console, giving students an authentic driving experience in both manual and automatic vehicles. Programs like this have been shown to help reduce the young driver fatality rate, and our students recognised the importance of the lessons learned.

We sincerely thank the Rotary Club of Young for providing this valuable experience to our students.
