LESC Sports Update

A Windy but Successful Day at Regional Athletics in Newborough!

Despite the blustery conditions, 15 dedicated students from LESC represented the college with determination and pride at the Regional Athletics Carnival in Newborough.

Each athlete gave their best effort in hopes of qualifying for the State Athletics Championships.

We are incredibly proud of all our students—not only for their performances but for the positive attitude and sportsmanship they displayed throughout the day. They truly upheld the values of our college and carried themselves with excellence.

A special congratulations to the following students who have qualified for State Athletics in Term 4 (October):

🏅 Cooper Rogerson – 1st in High Jump, Long Jump and Triple Jump

🥈 Alexis Smart – 2nd in 1500m

🏅 Jackson Cheesley – 1st in Javelin

We’d also like to recognise Bailey Upton for a fantastic all-round performance:

🥈 2nd in Triple Jump and Discus

🥉 3rd in Long Jump

Well done to all competitors! We look forward to seeing our qualifying athletes take on the next challenge at the State level.

Term 3 Basketball Skills Clinic

That’s a wrap! LESC Term 3 Basketball Skills has officially concluded today. Across Term 2 and Term 3, LESC proudly hosted Basketball Skills sessions in the hall, welcoming students from five different primary schools.

In total, over 50 children from 35 families participated, giving them the opportunity to learn, refine, and further develop their basketball abilities. It was fantastic to witness such a wide range of skill levels and even more rewarding to see the remarkable growth each child achieved throughout the program.

A very special thank you goes to Savannah and Mackenzie Maroney, who dedicated their own time to upskill in coaching and assist with the running of the program during Term 3. Without their commitment and support, the sessions simply would not have run as smoothly as they did.

We also extend our gratitude to all parents and carers for your ongoing support and commitment in bringing your children each week—it’s a true testament to the dedication you show in helping them succeed.

We hope all students enjoyed their experience with LESC Basketball Skills, and we’re excited to continue the program again next year.

Thank you,

Coach Adam Evans

Year 9 Fitness Unit – Final Beach Session

On Thursday 11th September, some of our Year 9 cohort wrapped up their fitness unit with the most challenging session yet – a beach workout! Despite the intensity, the students showed incredible determination and perseverance, pushing themselves to complete each exercise and support one another through the session.

A special congratulations to Team Chloe and Zhara, who were the fastest team on the day!

We commend all students for stepping out of their comfort zones and giving it their all. Your hard work, resilience, and positive attitudes did not go unnoticed.

Well done, Year 9 – you should be proud of yourselves!

Gippy Girls Can - Surfing Adventure

14 of our Year 7–10 students were lucky enough to take part in ‘Gippy Girls Can’, heading up to Cape Conran for a day of surfing lessons!

It was such a fantastic opportunity for our students to get active, build confidence, and have plenty of fun in the waves.

A big thank you to East Gippsland Shire Council and to Phil from Surf Shack, Lakes Entrance for making the day possible.
