News from the Art Room

Production props and sets preparation

As we approach mid-term, the art room is starting to get busy with preparations underway for the sets and props for our school production.

Shortly, the large panels will be arriving that will transform into our background sets. These generally need undercoating which means I would LOVE some parent helpers to assist with this.

Please keep a close eye out for working bee dates, there will likely be one late this term, followed by a few in term 2 and, due to timetabling, will take place on Fridays (time to be confirmed.)

While many props will be made by the students, there are a number of items we would like your help to track down, but would also welcome donations (we can return these to you after production.) Please see the list below…

-old-fashioned frilly, lacy umbrella

-old outdoor banana lounge or chaise

-empty paint tins

-trumpet (doesn’t have to be tuned or working)

-large hand-held, foldable fan

Production program front cover competition

The Arts leaders will be running a competition in the coming weeks which is open to all students in prep to year six. This involves submitting a design for the front cover of our school production. We have spent some time in art class looking at previous winning entries and many have started on their initial designs. Students are now encouraged to work on an entry in their own time at home. This is a fun, optional competition open to all students from  prep to year 6. If students wish to enter, submissions are due by the final day of this term, Thursday 2nd April.

A few things to note…

-Our production is titled ‘Alice - The Musical’ (not Alice in Wonderland)

-Landscape or portrait is accepted

-Paper size must be A4

-Any medium/materials can be used

This is a lovely chance for kids to be creative, use their imagination and apply their knowledge of the story to their artwork. Reading the story or watching a version of the movie might help inspire children with their entries. Students can partner up or join a group and submit one piece together.

MACS Creative Arts Exhibition 2026

Our beautiful mixed-media artwork of St Patrick that senior students contributed to late last year has been selected for entry into the MACS Creative Arts Exhibition 2026. This exhibition is open to the general public. Please see the flyer below for further details if you wish to go and see the exhibition.
