Monday 10 June is a holiday for the King's Birthday.
Last week 24 dedicated Year 9 and 10 SCC students made an early start to their day leaving school at 5:30am travelling to Launceston for the State final of the Science and Engineering Challenge.
They all had a fantastic day competing in a range of different activities that stretched students outside of their comfort zone and challenged them to apply their STEM knowledge in a variety of new situations.

From bridge building to scheduling challenges, building wind turbines, and planning a power grid our students performed admirability. The competition was extremely tight with only a few points separating all teams on the day. WELL DONE to all students involved!
We are excited to announce that the College will again be hosting the ICAS competitions in August. All six competitions are being held at the College (English, Writing, Spelling Bee, Mathematics, Science, and Digital Technologies). We encourage our Primary and Secondary students in Year 2-12 who want to be challenged to participate.
If you would like to register your child for any of the competitions, please find here the link to a registration form which includes information regarding fees:
*Interested students need to be registered by Friday 28 June 2024.
If you have any questions about the ICAS, the registration process, or fees please contact Deanna Klaver, the Learning Enhancement Coordinator - deanna.klaver@scc.tas.edu.au.
For further information please see the ICAS page in this newsletter.
Because of an election promise by the current State Government, bus fares will halve to $8 for a sheet of 10 tickets and $1 for a single ticket as of Monday 3 June.
As the weather becomes cooler, some students need to be reminded that they are not able to wear hoodies or sloppy-joes with their uniform. If students are seen with these, they will be asked to remove them.
Students are encouraged to wear a long sleeve white top under their school shirt. They can also wear a black or navy puffer jacket to and from school and at lunch and recess on cold days.
Too often, we will see that Secondary students have left their soft shell on the ground at the end of recess or lunch, particularly if they have been playing in the gym. Sometimes these have no name of them so cannot be easily returned to their owner.
Please name your uniform items!
Student made timber items, foods, artworks, games and music. Fun family market with quality items at bargain prices. Come and support Southern Christian College and celebrate the creative success of our students as we fund raise for new technology in design and arts across the whole school.
