Secondary Reminders

Recently, as the weather has become cooler, we have seen more students wearing non-uniform clothing. Please ensure that students have a note from home if they need to wear other clothing items for a time. If a student comes to school in a non-uniform hoodie and does not have a written reason, they will be asked to remove it.

If students are having difficulty managing their workload or are unsure about a particular task, it is important that they contact the class teacher in advance of the due date. If Year 7 and 8 students are unsure about doing this, parents are welcome to communicate with the class teacher but we strongly encourage Year 9 -12 students to do this themselves. Parents may help them in drafting an email to the teacher.

9 QUEST - Bruny Island

Grade 9 QUEST braved roaring forties gales to enjoy a real Tassie adventure on Friday, walking part of the Cape Queen Elizabeth track on Bruny Island. While some students opted to wade through the incoming tide and ocean waves, past the incredible cliff formations, others climbed Mars Bluff, enjoying the stunning, panoramic views of the isthmus, Tasman Sea and D'Entrecasteaux Channel. We reunited for lunch on the pristine, secluded beach, marvelling at the natural rock-arch and playing on the sand dunes. Despite the ferry service being postponed due to the strong winds, we still managed to return to the College safely and on time, praise God!

Science News

In Science this term the Year 8 students are engaging with their biology unit through a series of organ dissections. They have explored the form and function of the components of the musculoskeletal system through the careful dissection a chicken wing. They have dissected a sheep’s heart allowing them to see and feel the difference between the major blood vessels and other structures found within the heart. This gave them a better understanding of the structure and function of the cardiovascular system. This week they will be dissecting a kidney to investigate the structure of this organ and gain further insight to the role of the excretory system. Moving forward, they will also begin to look at comparative anatomy, by comparing a particular organ system of two different animals, this will guide the students to explore the form and function relationship further.

Year 7 students have been learning about the systems used to classify living things. They are now moving on to understanding the relationships within ecosystems and how various factors can influence these relationships.

Year 9 and 10 students have just finished their chemistry unit, studying many different, interesting chemical reactions. As we zoom into studying physics next, the Year 10 students will be using "Hot Wheels" cars to increase their understanding of physics.
