Junior School News

New adventures loading… playground upgrade in motion.
Our playground has officially had its final hurrah before an exciting transformation begins! The children enjoyed one last play on the much loved equipment, sharing laughs and making memories before it was carefully demolished to make way for something new. While we say goodbye to the old space with a touch of nostalgia, we eagerly await the grand reopening of a refreshed playground designed for even more fun, friendship, and adventure. We can’t wait to see our students reconnect, explore, and create new memories in this vibrant space where play and connection come to life.
Prep News
Our incredible Prep students continue to build and extend their literacy and numeracy skills, a key focus of their learning is developing fluency. In reading, students have begun engaging in daily fluency partner work, where they are paired with the same partner each day. Within these partnerships, students take on the roles of either the 'Apples' or the 'Bananas,' helping them practise reading smoothly, accurately, and with expression.
In Maths, our Preps have been exploring the concept of sequencing. They are learning the days of the week and practising putting them in the correct order. Students are also developing their understanding of sequencing events, including identifying and retelling the correct order of events in Incy Wincy Spider. It’s wonderful to see them building strong foundations as they learn that in Maths, just like in stories, order matters!
Year One News
Our Year Ones have been diving into our knowledge-rich curriculum, exploring the topic of 'Looking After Country with Fire'. They have been listening to the wisdom of Indigenous Elders and learning about how cultural fire practices help protect the land, homes, and animals. Through rich discussions and learning experiences, students have also been developing their writing skills by sharing and justifying their opinions about how we can care for our environment.
During MSL, the Year One students have been learning about the 'Magic E' and how it changes the sound of vowels in words. They have been exploring how adding an e at the end of a word can turn a short vowel sound into a long vowel sound, for example, cap → cape or kit → kite.
In Maths, the dedicated Year One students have been strengthening their understanding of place value, focusing on ones and tens. They have been learning how to represent numbers using Base 10 blocks and tens frames, as well as exploring place value concepts through the 100 chart and number lines. These hands on experiences are helping students build a strong foundation for understanding how numbers are structured and how they relate to one another.
Faro Italiano – Italian Limelight ✨🇮🇹
What a delight it was to step into the Year One space and see them in action during Italian! They even taught me a thing or two about greetings “Ciao!” and “Buongiorno!” such eager little language learners, ready to say hello to the world!
Year Two News
In Writing, our Year Twos have been developing their editing skills by carefully reviewing sentences to ensure they have the correct punctuation. They have also been learning to expand and connect their ideas using the conjunctions but, because, and so. This work is helping students create more detailed, cohesive sentences and clearly express their thinking in their writing.
In MSL, the Year Twos are deepening their spelling skills, exploring a range of rules including the Floss Rule, where the consonants f, l, s, and z are doubled at the end of one syllable words when the vowel is making its short sound.
In Maths, our Year Two superstars have been strengthening their skills in addition and subtraction by learning how to use a number line to support their thinking. They have also explored how to add and subtract a one-digit number to and from a two-digit number using the split strategy. This approach encourages students to break numbers apart into tens and ones, deepening their understanding of place value and supporting more confident, accurate problem solving. It’s clear the Year Twos are really adding up to success! ✨
A big shout out to this little rocket, Lilli, who arrived at school with a storybook she had carefully and beautifully created. It was such a treat to see that it included detailed illustrations and some truly wonderful vocabulary. 🌟📖
