RUOK Day

Today, our school community were encouraged to wear a splash of yellow to recognise R U OK? Day. While today was a wonderful celebration, its core message—checking in on one another, showing empathy, and building a supportive community—is something we practice every single day. This afternoon, students engaged in activities centred on peer support. They explored how small acts of kindness and being a good listener can make a world of difference to a classmate's day.

Together, we learned four key steps every friend can take:

  • Ask: Finding a good moment to check in if someone seems quiet, sad, or left out.
  • Listen: Giving full, thoughtful attention without interrupting.
  • Support: Helping a friend think of something comforting, or encouraging them to talk to a trusted adult.
  • Check In: Following up later to show they are supported and cared for.
  •

Continuing the Chat at Home You can keep the momentum going tonight with a few easy dinner table check-ins:

  • "What was one kind thing you saw or did today?"
  • "Who is someone at school who always brightens your day?"
  • "Who are the trusted adults you know you can always talk to when things feel tough?"

Novel Study

Our Year 5/6 students have been deeply engaged in reading Can You See Me? by Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott. Through the main character, Tally, students have been exploring the unique ways people experience and navigate the world around them. To build on this learning, we were thrilled to welcome Mrs. Kimball’s daughter, Connie, to our Year 5/6 classrooms on Wednesday.

Connie generously shared her personal experiences of living with neurodivergence and answered a variety of thoughtful, insightful questions from the students. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to deepen their empathy, celebrate individuality, and recognise that while our perspectives may differ, we share so much in common. Thank you, Connie, for visiting and inspiring our learning community!
