Principal`s Message

As we reach the end of another term, I have found myself reflecting on the incredible growth, learning and achievements that have taken place across our school community. Every classroom has been filled with examples of students challenging themselves, developing new skills, building relationships and taking pride in their learning. While it is important to celebrate these successes, it is equally important to acknowledge that not everyone finishes a term on a positive note. Some members of our community have faced personal challenges, difficulties and loss. At times like these, the strength of a community is measured by the way we support one another, wrapping our arms around those who need care, compassion and understanding.

This has been particularly evident this week following the tragic events at Collingwood College. Our thoughts are with their students, staff and families during this incredibly difficult time. I will be spending the end of the term supporting the Collingwood College community as they navigate the challenges ahead. Moments like these remind us of the importance of kindness, connection and looking out for one another.

One of the highlights of the term was finally being able to share our Napier Street building with our community. It was wonderful to welcome families into the space and celebrate this significant milestone together. A sincere thank you to Badria for organising the morning tea at Napier Street and providing our community with the opportunity to see firsthand the incredible new learning environment that has been created. We also had the pleasure of taking students onsite for the first time. Seeing their excitement, curiosity and smiles as they explored the new spaces was a fitting reward for the enormous amount of work that has gone into managing the building project over the past two years.

As we prepare for the beginning of Term 4, I would like to remind families that we will be reverting to our original timetable from Day 1. Students in 5/6A, 5/6B and 3/4C will continue to line up on George Street before moving across to their Napier Street classrooms. We are also pleased to open the Napier Street gate each morning, allowing students in Years 3-6 to access the site directly and park their bikes securely at Napier Street.

At the end of the school day, staff will release students from the Napier Street side. Any students who have not been collected by 3.35pm will be escorted back to George Street for collection. We are also excited that TheirCare OSHC will begin operating its after-school care program from the Napier Street site from the start of Term 4, further activating the space and providing a convenient transition for families accessing after-school care. We look forward to seeing our students fully utilising these wonderful new learning environments and facilities next term.

I would also like to congratulate Nick on his appointment as Principal of Fitzroy North Primary School. This is a wonderful achievement and a reflection of his commitment to education and leadership. While we are delighted for him, it does mean that he will not be returning to us next term. Nick has made a significant contribution to our school community, and I know he will do an outstanding job leading Fitzroy North Primary School. I am also sure that he will take a little bit of Fitzroy with him as he begins this exciting new chapter.

Finally, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for another wonderful term. Your support, resilience and commitment to our community continues to make our school a special place to learn and grow. I wish everyone a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break, and I look forward to welcoming you all back for an exciting Term 4.
