Season of Creation

The Season of Creation began on 1 September, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and continues until the Feast of St Francis of Assisi on 4 October. It is a special time for Christians to reflect on God’s gift of creation and to renew our commitment to caring for our common home, the Earth and the world we all share.

The Season of Creation is an ecumenical celebration, meaning that Christians from different churches and Christian traditions come together to pray, reflect and act for the care of God’s creation. This year’s theme is “Let Justice and Peace Flow.”

In his message for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, Pope Francis reminds us that our lives are deeply connected to one another, to the earth and to God. He calls us to listen more carefully to the needs of our common home and to stand alongside people who are affected by environmental and climate challenges.

Pope Francis encourages us to make a difference through an all-embracing transformation – changes in our hearts, our everyday choices and the way we work together as a community to care for creation.

The Season of Creation also reminds us that caring for the environment is not simply about looking after nature. It is an important part of living out our Christian call to love our neighbour, protect the vulnerable and care for the wonderful world God has entrusted to us.

As a school community, the Season of Creation provides an opportunity for us to be grateful for the beauty of God's creation and to consider how our everyday actions can help care for our common home.
