A Message from Principal Meika
Dear Families
Yesterday I was lucky enough to be Principal for a Day!
When I found out that I got selected I was overjoyed with happiness and felt proud of myself for achieving something like that. I congratulated the others and didn’t brag about it, or I would feel bad for the others that didn’t get it. The good thing is that the other people that didn’t get it will have a chance next term again to go for the role.
During my day as a principal I did lots of interesting things. In the morning I had front gate duty then went to the flag raising assembly and talked about the things happening this week. After that I went to a leadership meeting with Mr Evans, Mr Harvie, Mrs Schafter, Mrs Matthews, Mrs Garvie but sadly Mrs Dowling wasn’t well so she couldn't attend. We talked about all things we need to improve. Soon enough I had my first break. After that I went to work with Mrs Schafter on the TORCH bearer of term award to interview some of the recipients on some questions. Next I went to read a book to 1\2 green and Prep Yellow, which I enjoyed very well. Then I had my second break. I had yard duty on the playground and harmony garden. I got the first half for yard duty and the second half off. Soon enough I had one hour remaining for my job. I worked on the signs for the parent teacher interview and a little bit on this newsletter. After that I had yard duty when the bell rang. Then at 3:45 I officially got fired from one of my workers. I had a great time and think I should take over Mr Evans' job.
My favourite part about being the principal is being able to go to everyone’s class and socialise with others. One thing I was surprised that a principal would do is to actually get the time to go to the classes. I learnt that in leadership it is not only about making the decisions on your own but working as a group, I even learnt that leadership is a big role to have and you have to be confident to go through all the different things.
If I could introduce one new thing at Holy Trinity it would be to select maybe 3 or 2 students from each class and make a group called the PBL, we could make decisions and change the mascot maybe every year. A message I would give to the students at Holy Trinity would be, "Believe in yourself and your ability to learn new things every day."
I would like to give a big thank you to all the teachers that helped me today and all the teachers that set up the principal for a day role. Thank you for picking me because it has been very special to me to get to have this day.
