During Book Week, we were delighted to welcome Penny O’Loughlin into our Foundation classroom. Penny read her wonderful book Bud and Buzz to the children and they absolutely loved the story! It was a lovely Book Week experience, and the children thoroughly enjoyed meeting a real life author and listening to Penny bring her book to life.

A big thank you to Penny for giving her time to visit us. Please see Penny’s flyer attached for more information about her and how you can order a copy of Bud and Buzz or explore her other books.

What's been happening in Year 2?

During Book Week, our Grade 2 students were surprised each day by a speak Mystery Reader! We welcomed mums, dads and even an uncle who flew all the way from Cayman Islands to share a story with us.

We listened to many wonderful stories. The Grade 2’s loved being immersed in literature and discovering the joy that comes from sharing stories together.

A huge thank you to all our Mystery Readers for making Book Week extra special!

What's been happening in Year 3?

In Year 3 this term, we have been exploring many elements of Australia’s Indigenous Peoples culture. We enjoyed a wonderful day of exploration at the Melbourne Museum, during which we saw a possum skin cloak, heard Dreaming stories, were fascinated by eel traps and appreciated Indigenous People’s knowledge of plants and animals.

Further to our studies, we discovered how Indigenous People were given totems. Totems are significant in Indigenous Culture as you are not allowed to hunt or eat your totem. Instead, you are charged with looking after your totem, and educating others about it, too.

Totems were often passed down through generations, but could also be assigned to you based on your personality. We considered this when we chose a totem animal, and connected our choice to things about ourselves.

We have enjoyed this Inquiry unit very much!
