Year 9 News

We have now entered the second half of Term 4. As we move toward the end of the school year, our days will be filled with special events, final learning goals, and important assessments. It is an exciting and meaningful time for our students.
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
Throughout the year, all Year 9 form groups consistently demonstrated Kurnai’s four pillars, earning a strong number of Kurnai Positive Acknowledgements (KPAs).
Students worked hard and showed great determination across each term, resulting in impressive end-of-year totals:
9A: 4,648
9B: 3,368
9C: 3,784
9D: 3,921
Outdoor Education Surf Camp
In week 5, 20 of our Year 9 students took part in a surf camp at Wilsons Promontory, an exciting experience where students get to shred some waves at a famous Victorian national park. Throughout the camp, students worked together to cook food, set up camps, explore the local wildlife and learn how to surf. It was a great opportunity for students to get out with their friends and experience what the national park has to offer!
“On the 5th of November we headed to the prom for a 3-day surf camp. The first day we surfed in Waratah Bay where we learnt the basic skills of surfing. On day two we had a full day of surfing in the prom where we got to practice our skills. On day three we quickly packed up because it was raining and head to Maccas in Leongatha for a quick meal before heading back to school. Overall, it was an amazing camp, and I would 100% recommend choosing the Outdoor Ed elective.” – Skylah R & Lavinia B
“Surf camp was an amazing camp! We had lots of funny moments such as the bus breaking down and some amazing wipe outs!” – Rahzel M
Kurnai's Got Talent
Congratulations to both Steph W and Sienna T for stepping up and showcasing your skills in Kurnai’s Got Talent as part of the elective band! Your confidence, teamwork, and musicianship were fantastic to watch, and your commitment to rehearsing and improving was evident in your performance. You should both be incredibly proud of what you achieved on stage. Well done!
“This year at KGT, we had a variety of performances— from stand-up comedy to song and dance—and the crowd loved it! There were nine outstanding acts, with the top 3 being Kara Phillips, The Rodents (my personal favourite), and the VCE band. My favourite part was being able to encourage my mates and catch up with people I don't often see. For the rehearsals, we were fed hot chips, and we had pizza for dinner before heading on stage, which was the second-best part of the whole night. Overall, it was a pleasure to perform, and if I could do it all again, I would!” Steph W
“KGT was honestly such a fun event. Students from all year levels got up on stage to sing, dance, play instruments, and even do comedy. A really big thank you to the teachers and staff who organised this whole experience for us, including the extra after-school rehearsals and efforts to always keep us informed, prepared and organised. It was so fun to watch all the other performers, and overall, the night was a big success and a really enjoyable way to bring our school community together.” – Sienna T
Year 9 Awards Ceremony
Congratulations to all the students who were recognised at the Year 9 awards. Your hard work and dedication throughout the year have truly paid off. Each of you demonstrated a strong commitment to your learning and personal growth throughout the year. Your achievements reflect not only your effort but also the positive impact you’ve had on our school community. Well done to everyone involved, and keep aiming high as you move forward!
Gumbuya World
On the 11th of December, we have our upcoming Celebration Day at Gumbuya World, which is always a fun and rewarding way to finish the year. Students are expected to follow all school and venue rules throughout the day to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment. Please remember to stay sun smart, and come prepared with any necessary items such as water, hats, money for food etc. We also ask that students always demonstrate respectful behaviour and listen carefully to staff instructions. We’re looking forward to a fantastic day together and appreciate everyone’s cooperation!
Congratulations & Thank You
Thank you to our year 9 cohort and their families for contributing to such a positive and successful year. Your enthusiasm, resilience, and willingness to grow have made a real difference in our school community.
