Mordialloc College AFL 9s School Competition:
A Display of Grit and Determination
The AFL Victoria Southeast Region AFL Nines School Competition, held on Friday, 29 November 2024, showcased the talent and spirit of Mordialloc College's young AFL athletes. Competing across multiple age groups at Belvedere Reserve, our teams demonstrated resilience, skill, and development throughout the tournament.
Year 7 Boys Teams
Mordialloc College fielded two Year 7 Boys teams, each showing unique strengths throughout the competition.
Mordialloc College Year 7 Boys Blue Team:
The Blue team had an impressive tournament, securing four wins out of four matches. They started strong with a 45-point victory over the Mordialloc Red team, followed by a dominant 96-point win against Mornington Secondary College. Their most thrilling match came in Round 3, where they narrowly defeated Bentleigh Secondary College by just 5 points. In their final match against the Mordialloc Red team, they maintained their winning form with a 12-point victory.
Mordialloc College Year 7 Boys Red Team:
The Mordialloc Red team showed potential and fighting spirit throughout the tournament. While they suffered losses in some matches, including a 43-point defeat to Bentleigh Secondary College, they demonstrated improvement and resilience. Their standout performance came in Round 3, where they secured a convincing 52-point win over Mornington Secondary College.
Year 8 Boys Team:
The Year 8 Boys team competed in a series of closely contested matches. Their tournament was marked by a mix of results, including:
With Beaumaris getting the upper hand in both of their fixtures, it gives us a fantastic opportunity to develop for our 2025 interschool sport gala day, where we will meet them again.
Year 7/8 Girls Teams
Mordialloc College's girls’ teams showed remarkable skill and determination across their matches.

The Year 7 team showed significant improvement throughout the tournament. The caveat in this fixture, was in the grading. Our Year 7 girls were required to play against Year 8 girls across the tournament, which posed a challenge. Irrespective of the competition they took on the challenge with positivity. While the tournament results varied across teams, each group demonstrated the core values of Mordialloc College: personal best, respect, community resulting in continuous improvement. These young athletes have shown tremendous potential and promise in the AFL 9s format. We look forward to this success transferring to our future gala days in 2025.
