PRINCIPAL’S NEWSLETTER FEB 12 2026

A Wonderful Start to the Year

What a busy and positive start to 2026 we have had!

Students have returned with enthusiasm and have settled quickly into their classrooms. It has been fantastic to see calm, purposeful learning already underway across the school.

Our Foundation students are now attending four days a week, and we are so proud of how smoothly they have transitioned into school life. They are building routines, friendships and confidence each day.

This week, families met with their child’s 2026 teacher to share important information to support a strong start. We greatly value these partnerships. Staff also engaged in detailed handover sessions at the end of 2025 to ensure all child’s strengths and needs were well understood.

Year 6 Beach Days

Our Year 6 students enjoyed four wonderful days at the beach, building independence, teamwork and lasting memories. They represented our school beautifully — we are very proud of them.

Student Leadership in Action

Student leadership is already in full swing!

  • Student Leaders have proudly received their badges.
  • Play Leaders are running engaging activities and events in the yard.
  • Our School Captains have begun planning their first student-led activity and will share more information at the next assembly — we look forward to seeing their ideas come to life.
  • Applications for Student Engagement Leaders and monitors have been submitted, with announcements coming soon.

It is inspiring to see our students step into leadership with such responsibility and initiative.

School Council Nominations

Nominations for School Council positions have been sent out ahead of our AGM in March. We warmly encourage families to consider becoming involved. Your voice and partnership play an important role in shaping our school’s future.

Foundation BBQ Success

The sunshine certainly turned it on for our Foundation BBQ!

It was wonderful to see so many families attend. The treasure hunt was a highlight, and students loved showing their families the specialist rooms and introducing them to our specialist teachers.

Thank you to Lazers, KingSwim and TheirCare for being on site to connect with families, and to our School Council members for coming along to support the event.

Moments like these truly reflect the strength of our school community.

2026 School Review

Every four years, schools undertake a full review process — and we are fortunate to begin ours next week.

Independent regional reviewers will visit over several weeks to:

  • Observe classrooms
  • Meet with focus groups
  • Analyse student achievement and wellbeing data

This process provides a valuable overview of where we are in curriculum and wellbeing and will guide the development of our next four-year Strategic Plan. We look forward to this important work and to building on the strong foundations already in place.

A Message to Our Community

Recently, we have had to respond to the revelations relating to the former principal’s court case. We recognise this has been distressing for many in our community.

Please be assured that we have taken this matter extremely seriously. I have worked closely with the Department to once again review all Child Safe policies and processes — work we had already undertaken at the beginning of 2025. The safety and wellbeing of our students remain our absolute priority.

We expect sentencing next week and acknowledge that this may bring renewed emotions. At the same time, it is important to recognise how far we have come in the past year.

Our students are happy and engaged. Our classrooms are calm and focused. Our routines and learning processes are consistent across the school.

I am incredibly proud of our staff. During what has been a difficult time, they have once again put students first — ensuring every day remained consistent, supportive and centred on active learning.

Thank you to the families who reached out with messages of support and to those who shared their concerns. Your partnership and trust mean a great deal.

Together, we are making great things happen.

We truly do have an amazing school and an incredible community.

Kind regards,

Deb Haddow
