A Special Thank You to Our Dynamic Duo

At Kalinda Primary School, we are fortunate to have two extraordinary leaders at the helm: Mr Shaun McClare, Principal, and Mrs Lauren Hopkins, Assistant Principal.

The Victorian Principals Association describes school leaders as advocates, mentors, strategists, community builders, and champions of student success. They are tasked with leading school improvement, supporting staff, engaging with families, and navigating the ever-changing world of education.

However, what the official job description fails to mention is everything else they do.

What it doesn't say is that principals and assistant principals are also expected to be:

• Amateur meteorologists when deciding if lunchtime can continue despite "just a few drops of rain."
• Traffic controllers at drop-off and pick-up.
• Professional finders of lost drink bottles, jumpers, lunch boxes, hats and occasionally entire classes.
• Conflict negotiators capable of resolving disputes ranging from playground disagreements to heated debates about whose turn it was to use the blue marker.
• Technology troubleshooters who can somehow fix a frozen laptop simply by standing next to it.
• Event managers, counsellors, cheerleaders, first aid assistants, motivational speakers and part-time magicians.

Every day, Shaun and Lauren juggle hundreds of decisions, support our students and staff, work closely with families, lead improvement initiatives, manage budgets, attend meetings, answer endless emails and somehow still find time to greet students with a smile.

Behind every successful school is a team of dedicated people, and behind Kalinda's continued success are leaders who care deeply about our community and consistently go above and beyond. Their commitment, energy and good humour help make Kalinda the special place that it is.

So, on behalf of our students, staff and families, we'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mr Shaun McClare and Mrs Lauren Hopkins for their tireless efforts, unwavering dedication and remarkable ability to handle everything from strategic planning to mystery jumper investigations.

We appreciate all that you do, especially the many things that never make it into the official job description.
