Meadowbank Victorious in Premiers Debating Challenge

In Week 1, the Meadowbank Persuaders Debating Team challenged Epping Public School in Round 3 of the Premiers Debating Challenge. The topic for the debate was: “That Year 5 and 6 students should have weekly cooking classes at school.” 

Students had just one hour to prepare for the debate, making their achievement even more impressive. Our talented debating team represented Meadowbank as the negative side, arguing that weekly cooking classes should not be introduced. They confidently spoke about the challenges of fitting cooking lessons into a busy school timetable, the difficulties some schools might have with resources like kitchens and equipment, and the importance of safety. They also explained that cooking can be learned at home and doesn’t always need to be taught at school. 

Both Meadowbank and Epping teams presented great ideas and spoke confidently, engaging the audience of Year 5 students throughout the debate. 

After careful consideration, the adjudicator awarded the victory to Meadowbank, recognising the team’s strong reasoning, clear communication, and excellent teamwork. Congratulations to Gemma, Thea, Layan, and Claire on their fantastic achievement!
