Education Week - Inspiring Excellence 

This week is Public Education Week, a time for all of us to come together and celebrate our commitment to inspiring excellence. Let’s take pride in being part of NSW public education and the endless and far-reaching achievements of our students and staff.  

Excellence at Meadowbank Public School is embodied through a holistic and inclusive approach to education that nurtures every child’s potential in a supportive environment. 

At the heart of this excellence are highly skilled and dedicated teachers who employ best teaching practices tailored to meet diverse learners’ needs. These educators foster a culture of curiosity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning, ensuring all students can thrive academically and personally. 

Meadowbank offers a range of extension opportunities and High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) programs designed to challenge and inspire students who demonstrate advanced abilities. These programs are embedded within an inclusive framework, ensuring all students have equitable access to enrichment, support, and personalised learning pathways. 

Beyond academic achievement, excellence at Meadowbank means nurturing the whole child. The school provides a rich variety of extracurricular activities spanning language development, music, sport, STEM and social-emotional learning. This broad curriculum fosters creativity, teamwork, wellbeing, and resilience, preparing students for success both inside and outside the classroom.

You will have an opportunity to see this in action at our school’s Open Day on Thursday 6 August. 

Join us for a morning filled with learning, creativity, and community engagement. 

• Kindergarten to Year 2 Open Classrooms: 9:00 am – 9:30 am Parents are invited to visit classrooms and see the wonderful learning experiences happening with our Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students. 
• Showcase in the school hall: 9:35 am – 10:05 am Enjoy performances by our talented orchestra, choir, recorder ensemble, and dance groups. 
• Years 3 to 6 Open Classroom: 10:10 am – 10:40 am Parents of Years 3 to 6 students are welcome to tour classrooms and engage with teachers and students. 

Additionally, our Cooking Club will be hosting a fundraiser by selling delicious baked goods for $2 each. Be sure to support them and enjoy a tasty treat! 

Parent-Teacher Interviews

Supporting your child after parent-teacher interviews is an important step in helping them grow academically and emotionally. Often parents and teachers share valuable information and insights and do not share the information with the child. Here are some practical ways parents can help: 

• Share the feedback with your child in a constructive manner. Celebrate progress, no matter how small, to build confidence. Remind your child that learning is a process and everyone makes mistakes. Praise their effort rather than just outcomes. 
• Highlight their strengths and achievements first, then talk about areas for improvement. The teacher would be able to let you know an area to focus on. At school we use Two Stars and a Wish. Two Stars – strengths and achievements. A Wish – an area for improvement. 
• Help your child set realistic and specific goals based on the ‘Wish’. For example: I will improve my reading skills. 
• Brainstorm together how to reach these goals. This might include creating a study plan, practising skills or reading / writing more at home, or accessing extra help if needed. 

Of course, after interviews, it’s important to stay in touch with the teacher and attend any follow-up meetings or use school resources offered. 

By working together as a team (child, teacher, parent), you can help your child build on their strengths, address challenges, and grow as a learner.

Special Thank You to Csilla

A heartfelt thank you to one of our parents, Csilla, for donating a cello to the school and helping inspire a love of music in our students. They will now have more opportunities to learn and enjoy music. This contribution will enrich our music program and allow students to explore new instruments and develop their talents.
