Premier's Debating Competition

Round 1

In Week 4, we had our first Premier's Debating Competition against Edensor Park Public School. It was such a thrilling experience. The topic was 'Primary school should only be 4 days a week' and we had to argue against it. We won the competition!!!  We were given only an hour to prepare our arguments and speech beforehand, so it was really stressful but as we worked together writing our arguments, preparing our rebuttals and improving each other’s speeches, it strengthened our teamwork skills. We encouraged one another while racing against the clock, determined to do our best. As the timer counted down, nerves and anxiety began to build, but we pushed through and delivered our speeches with confidence.

We listened carefully to the opposing team’s arguments and worked together to create thoughtful rebuttals. The first speaker had the challenging role of responding to the other team’s points, while our third speaker focused entirely on rebuttals. As a team, we supported her by helping structure each response step by step. Overall, this experience was fantastic and we are already looking forward to our next debate.
