In English, we have been learning about Antarctica and its fascinating creatures. We have been writing Information Reports about Antarctic animals, for example, the Emperor Penguins or Orcas. We have learnt how to take notes and summarise, and together this has taught us how to write a perfect PEEL (Point, Evidence, Explanation and Link) paragraph. Did you know the Emperor Penguin can dive up to 565 metres? If you want to learn about Antarctica and its wildlife, you should definitely ask Year 6!
During STEM, Stage 3 (Year 5 and Year 6) have been building LEGO robots and learning how to code them. To code them, we use Spike, which gives us instructions for what we want to build. So far, we have built cars and wind detectors and we have learnt about different types of energy like thermal, chemical, kinetic, and solar energy. We have really enjoyed STEM because it teaches us to think outside the box.
In Sport, we have been engaged in Soccer experiences and we have been doing lots of fun drills and games. During Art class, Mrs Traylen has taught us lots of different techniques and styles to help improve our art. Recently we have been focusing on printing, for example, cyanotype printing.

In History, we are learning about how Australia was first set up as a penal colony and how it became a common place for convicts during the 19th century. It is really fun to learn about because we get to find out more about the history of Australia.
During Religion, we have been learning about the Good Samaritan and how we can be like him by helping others and treating people the right way. We created Canva or Google slides or posters to show what the Beatitudes mean, how Jesus modelled the Beatitudes in his life and how we can live out the Beatitudes too. We have focused on the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development to show how the whole world can work together and help fix the world piece by piece.
Currently in Year 6, we have a lot of leadership tasks happening around the school. Eg: SRC meetings, CARE bear in the classrooms, St Patrick’s Day/Harmony Day/Ride to school Safely Day - just to name a few. We have also given a warm welcome to our buddies in Kindy - one of our favourite things to do!

This term, Year 5 have loved stepping up and starting their journey as the leaders of STMM. Some of the most exciting moments were receiving their STMM caps, having sport at Queens Park and getting ready for camp!
Some of the Year 5 highlights have been:
This term my highlight has been joining St Margaret Mary’s. I have loved making new friends and getting to know everyone in Year 5. I have enjoyed getting to know my teachers and Mrs O’Donnell. l can’t wait to see what term 2 has to hold.

STEM has been awesome, Mr Ritchie has been making us build robots to gauge how much wind pressure there is with a tachometre using Lego Spike.
By Roshan - Year 5
So far this term in Year 5 has been a blast! I’ve had so much fun making my passion project! Each week we have been following our planner to get ourselves organised for our presentation. For example, in Week 1 we created a moodboard of our passions. I have made slides and a model to go with my presentation and I can’t wait to share it with my class.
