Science

Our Year 1 and 2 scientists have been diving into the world of surface water and groundwater. Last week, they took their learning outdoors, creating lakes and rivers in the sandpit and watching in wonder as water flowed, pooled and soaked into the ground. It was an engaging adventure that brought their classroom learning to life!

Prep students have begun the term exploring the difference between living and non-living things, and learning what living things need to survive. To put their learning into practice, they each planted a seed to take home, nurture and watch grow.

National Science Week

The science room has been buzzing with fun and excitement this week as we celebrate National Science Week! The teachers may have gone a little “mad” with their ideas, and the fun has only just begun. Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students took part in vegetable stamping, where the tables were set — not for eating — but for creating beautiful artwork. Using fruit and vegetables as stamps, students explored their creativity while also learning about lines of symmetry.

Our senior students have been exploring fascinating patterns in nature through the lens of fractals, beautifully tying into this year’s theme, “Decoding the Universe – Exploring the Unknown with Nature’s Hidden Language.” This theme invites students across Australia to unravel the natural world’s underlying “languages” like mathematics, quantum science and intricate geometrical patterns.

Outdoor play has a special kind of magic, and our students have been showing just how powerful it can be. While on yard duty last week, I came across a group of girls busily transforming the dry creek bed into their very own shop. With a carefully arranged display and even a special menu for their “customers”, their imaginative play was a wonderful example of problem-solving, teamwork and joyful learning in action.
