JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

2025 is a Jubilee Year, a special time in the Church for prayer and renewal, it happens every 25 years. Jubilees have a theme. The theme this year is Pilgrims of Hope.

In the church this week we have the mini cathedral, cathedra and relics.

The mini cathedral is a very accurate scaled down version of our cathedral in Armidale.

Our Cathedral is named St Mary and Joseph Cathedral.

The cathedra is the bishop's chair, and it is very important because it symbolises his teaching authority and leadership in the Church. When the bishop sits in the cathedra, he teaches and guides the people in their faith. This chair is not just any chair; it is a special throne that shows how the bishop is like a shepherd, caring for his flock. In our diocese we are led by Bishop Peter Murphy.

We also have some Relics in the church today they are special items that are connected to saints or holy people.

Each class have had time to visit this display and hear about the reason behind the items being in our town. Students asked lots of questions and all agree that the cathedral is a big building. They were also excited to find out that St John's church in Barraba is older than the cathedral!
