Greater Western Lawn Bowls Championship
Congratulations to the following students who competed in the Greater Western Lawn Bowls Championships last Thursday in Ballarat – Kiara, Banjo, Luciano, Marlee, Toby, Cody and Reeghan. They did a fantastic job competing against schools from Horsham, Ballarat, Warrnambool and Ararat. They narrowly missed out in the Grand Final by one end! A big thank you to the parents and grandparents who supported the day.
Free Junior Tennis Program
As part of the Barongarook Tennis Club’s commitment to giving back to the Colac Community and supporting the next generation of tennis players, they are proud to be offering a FREE three-month junior tennis coaching program. The program welcomes children who are completely new to tennis as well as those who have played before. All coaching costs are fully funded by the Barongarook Tennis Club.

Year 5 and 6 Sport
Currently in the Year 5 and 6 classes, our students have been introduced to the game of Touch Football. Coach Logan from Kelly’s Sports has been working with the students to develop their skills, including passing, catching, attacking and defending. The students have thoroughly enjoyed learning a new sport and have embraced the challenge of developing their teamwork, communication and game awareness. It has been fantastic to see everyone getting involved, having fun and building their confidence on the field!
Winter Sport Round 5
Well done to our Year 5 and 6 students who competed against St Mary’s Primary School last week in the Winter Sports Program. The children competed in the following sports – soccer, badminton, table tennis, downball, hot shots tennis and netball. It was fantastic to see the students having a go, learning new skills and supporting their teammates.
Winter Sport Round 6
This Friday 11th September, our Year 5 and 6 students will compete against Colac South West Primary School in Round 6 of the Winter Sports Competition. This will take place at Colac South West from 11:45am to 1:15pm. Students will travel by bus to Colac South West. The sports on offer are Soccer, Football, Hot Shots Tennis, T-Ball and Netball. We look forward to a good day at Colac South West.
Students in Year 5 and 6 will need to wear their sports uniform, and bring along their school hat, drink bottle and the appropriate clothing for their sport e.g. football boots, etc. Students may still have a lunch order.
Footy Colours Day
On Thursday 17th September, all students have the chance to wear their favourite football code colours e.g. AFL, soccer, NRL etc. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation that will go towards our selected fundraising group, “Colac Kindness Network”. This is a registered charity in Colac that provides free food relief, essential items, and community support to people facing hardship, cost-of-living struggles, or homelessness.
Year 3 and 4 Sports Session
On Thursday 17th September, our Year 3 and 4 students will have a sports session, where they will compete against one another in football, netball, soccer and mixed games. This will take place between recess and lunchtime. Students in Year 3 and 4 will need to wear their sports uniform and bring along their school hat, drink bottle and the appropriate clothing for their sport e.g. football boots, etc.
Greater Western Regional Athletics
Several students at Sacred Heart have qualified for the Greater Western Regional Athletics that will be held in Ballarat on Friday 9th October at the Llanberris Athletics Track.
More information will be sent home via PAM next week.
Basketball Trials
During the next two weeks, interested students in Year 5 and 6 will have the chance to trial for the Sacred Heart Basketball Teams that will compete in the Colac Division Basketball Championships on Monday 12th October at Bluewater. Sacred Heart will be sending along one boys team and two girls teams. Staff member and keen basketballer Ben Martin will be running the trials for the students.

5. What skills do you think you’ve improved the most? I have improved my tennis serve, and my dancing skills have improved overall.
6. Who is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sporting team is the Essendon Football Club.
7. If you could play sport with any famous athlete, who would it be? If I had the chance to play sport with a famous athlete, I would choose the entire Essendon football team.
8. What’s your pre-game routine or lucky habit? My pre-game routine is to jump twice, then land and balance on one foot.
9. How would your coaches and teammates describe you? My coach and teammates would describe me as funny, kind, competitive, and encouraging.
10. What makes a good sportsperson? A good sportsperson is someone who shows kindness, follows the rules, and treats others with respect.

2. What has been your favourite sport to play? My favourite sport to play is football.
3. What’s your favourite position to play and why? My favourite position in football is the midfield because I like being able to run and be involved in the play.
4. What is your proudest sporting moment? My proudest sporting moment was kicking five goals in one football game.
5. What skills do you think you’ve improved the most? The skill I have improved the most is kicking goals from the pocket.
6. Who is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sporting team is Richmond.
7. If you could play sport with any famous athlete, who would it be? If I could play sport with a famous athlete, I would choose soccer legend Lionel Messi.

5. What skills do you think you’ve improved the most? I have improved my long-distance running the most.

3. What’s your favourite position to play and why? My favourite position in basketball is defence because I am small, quick, and love putting pressure on the opposition. My teammates say I am like a Jack Russell dog because I never give up.
4. What is your proudest sporting moment? My proudest sporting moment was when my team won the Grand Final while playing for the Colac Kooka’s Basketball Club.
5. What skills do you think you’ve improved the most? The skill I have improved the most is my shooting in soccer. I am becoming more accurate and scoring more goals.
6. Who is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sporting team is the Colac Kooka’s Basketball Club.
7. If you could play sport with any famous athlete, who would it be? If I could play sport with a famous athlete, I would choose Jazmin Shelley.
