Infants

Our Infants students are all getting excited about the events happening towards the end of the term and are very busy preparing for these.  Classes have been preparing and rehearsing for our special ‘Showcase Evening’ in Week 8. All students are enjoying getting excited about their song and dance and projects and can’t wait to show these off to our family and friends very soon.

We are also looking forward to our Father’s Day BBQ Breakfast happening next Thursday 3/9 from 8.30am. Mr Jones and our Primary Captains will be cooking bacon and egg rolls (available from 8.30 – 9am) and then we invite our visitors in to our K-6 classrooms from – 9.30am.  All Dads, Grandads and father figures are welcome!

The weather is warming up, and Spring is in the air.  With this change of season, lots of jumpers and jackets are getting left behind at school. Please make sure names are clearly labelled on all clothing so that items can be returned to the right person.  Hats are also encouraged on warmer days.  At the start of Term 4, we will re-introduce our ‘No hat, no play’ rule, however students are encouraged to wear a hat in term 3, especially on warmer days.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students are showing remarkable growth in their skills across all learning areas, and we have been noticing how far we’ve come since starting school 125 days ago! Students are now writing sentences with growing independence and are very impressed with their skills. Check out some of their sentence writing below!

We have been busy building ‘very fine dwellings’ after reading ‘Clancy and Millie and the Very Fine House’ by Libby Gleeson and Freya Blackwood. Lots of fun and great team work was had constructing some great buildings using various materials. Our construction skills will continue to develop as we explore different materials and what they are best suited to in Science. 

Another highlight has been exploring directions and instructions using little Beebot robots. So much fun was had as students experimented with simple programming, aiming to get their Beebot to travel around a ‘building’. The Beebots may not have taken a direct route, but they did get to practice their spinning and reversing! Lots of laughs!

We are excited to welcome Jayden Cutting to our K-6 teaching staff as he begins his teaching career. Jayden has been a much valued SLSO at our school for many years, and has just recently gained his teaching approval number and is now the Yindyamarra Classroom Teacher while Mrs McGrath is on maternity leave. We are all excited to have Jayden working in this new role!

Year 3/4 

What’s Happening in Our Classroom?

We have been very busy in Stage 2, with lots of fantastic learning happening across the classroom!

In English, we have been exploring poetry and discovering how poets use interesting vocabulary, precise verbs and imaginative descriptions to create pictures in the reader’s mind. Students have enjoyed turning ordinary objects into poetic descriptions and experimenting with similes and metaphors. We have also been continuing our work on complex sentences, learning how to join independent and dependent clauses using subordinating conjunctions.

In spelling, we have been investigating spelling words with the schwa sound and writing homophones. Students are becoming more confident at thinking carefully about which spelling is needed based on the meaning of a word in a sentence.

In mathematics, we have been developing our multiplication and division skills. We have been practising efficient strategies, using what we already know about multiplication to help solve more challenging problems and explaining our mathematical thinking.

We have also been putting our creativity and problem-solving skills to work! With plenty of cardboard boxes left over from our new preschool, students have had lots of fun finding imaginative ways to repurpose them. It has been wonderful to see them designing, constructing, collaborating and transforming simple cardboard boxes into their own creative inventions.

Our GEM chats continue to be an important part of our classroom routine. Through Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness, students are learning to reflect, listen carefully to others and confidently share their own ideas.

We have also been working hard to demonstrate our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Participation. Our current focus is on following instructions the first time, being organised and making choices that allow everyone in our classroom to learn.

It has been wonderful to see students continuing to challenge themselves, support one another and take pride in their learning. We are looking forward to another busy few weeks!
