TERM 4 SPORT
Welcome back to Term 4. This term brings the start of the 2023/2024 sport calendar. We look forward to what sporting events this term will bring including our annual swimming carnival.
REPRESENTATIVE SPORT
NSWPSSA Athletics
Congratulations to Kieran C and Lana B who will represent our school as part of the MacKillop Athletics Team at the NSWPSSA Athletic Championships. Kieran will be competing in the 1500m and Lana in the 100m and 200m. This event will be held over 2 days on October 25th-26th. It is such an achievement to reach this level. Good-luck!
Conference 3 Boys Basketball Trial
It didn’t take long for our first sporting trial to kick off for the term. On October 11 we had Jye L, Ethan P, James D and Jye L represent St Patrick’s at the Conference 3 Basketball Trial. The boys had a great experience here at this trial, playing against many talented Basketball Players across Conference 3 and 4 including but not limited to the Sutherland and St George Sydney Catholic Schools network. We are pleased to announce that Ethan P, James D and Frankie G have all progressed to the Sydney Trial.
Conference 3 Boys and Girls Touch Football Trial
On the same day as the Basketball Trial we had Lila M, Noah VD, Jye L, Harlem T, and Zach C attend the Conference 3 Touch Football Trial. Some of these students were selected last year to compete at this trial but we also had some new students attending this level. Regardless of the outcome, sport trials teach us so many things from personal growth and player development to social skills as well as providing the opportunity for reflection and goal setting. Students who were successful in progressing to the Sydney Trial for Touch Football were Lila M, Noah VD, Harlem T and Jye L.
Conference 3 and 4 AFL Trial
On Tuesday 17 October we had 5 boys attend the combined conference AFL Trial. In attendance were Jye L, Zach C, Noah VD, Jack T and Ryan M. Well done all boys for giving this trial your best shot. There will be an opportunity for a Girls AFL Trial in 2024 for those year 5 and 6 parents who have nominated their daughter for AFL. Students who have progressed to the Sydney Trial have not yet been released.
Netball Trial
Good luck to Jessica T, Elsie B and Lila M who will be attending the last of the representative trials for the month of October. These girls will compete at the Conference 3 girls and we hope you have a great experience as you take the court. Enjoy the experience girls while you give it your best efforts.
INTERSCHOOL SPORT
Year 3 League Tag Gala Day
Our year 3 students finally had the opportunity to participate in the Sydney Catholic Schools Inter School League Tag Gala Day on Tuesday 17 October. The day brought all sorts of weather but we were grateful it went ahead. This involved 8 schools, 550 students across 53 teams with 80 games scheduled. Our staff along with students enjoyed a morning out at Kareela Playing Fields. Our teams played against our local Sydney Catholic Schools in a friendly environment while developing our schools mission of fostering healthy life choices and skills such as resilience, problem solving and perseverance.
We look forward to what Interschool sport holds for 2024.
Year 5 Boys Level 1 League Tag Conference 3 Championship Day
The success of our Year 5 level 1 boys team from the Interschool League Tag sessions throughout Term 3 have seen our boys progress to a championships day. This event will be held on Tuesday 24th October.
Our level 1 team will make their own way to Kareela sporting fields where they will meet Miss Dorrough. Our team will play other teams who ranked in the top 4 in our network (ie Sutherland network v Sutherland Network) in the morning. From those games, the winner of the Sutherland network will play off in a Conference 3 final in the afternoon against the St George Network.
Good-luck Boys!
SWIMMING CARNIVAL/ TRIAL YEARS 2-6
Save the Date! Our annual School Swimming Carnival and trial for the Conference 3 Swimming Trial will be held on THURSDAY 23rd NOVEMBER in Week 7. Consent, details and nomination forms will be communicated to all families shortly.
3-5 NRL SHARKS LEAGUE TAG GALA DAY
Our school will be entering an NRL League Tag Gala Day this term for students in years 3-5. An expression of interest will be shared via COMPASS for any students who are interested in participating in this gala day. This gala day hosted by NRL Sharks will be on Wednesday November 29.
Alternative Gala Day for Year 6 ONLY
Unfortunately year 6 are unable to participate in this particular gala day as there is a clash with the surf awareness program. Instead the Year 6 students will be offered to participate in the Sydney East Oz-Tag Gala Day on November 8th. We can only send 1xYear 6 boys team and 1xYear 6 girls team. Therefore a nomination form will be sent home over the next week and those first to fulfil these teams will attend.
SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVE JERSEYS
Thank you for the influx of returned representative jerseys. If you haven’t done so already, this is just a friendly reminder to have a look for any more representative jerseys that may still be hiding in the wardrobes at home. If they could be returned to the school office, it is much appreciated. Thank you.
