On 28 July, Cricket Tasmania announced the names of 23 young cricketers to be part of its Emerging Tigers Program. 15 boys included – two are former students and one a current student of the College. Darcy Allen and Joe McCann finished Year 10 last year  and Luca Di Venuto, Michael’s son, is currently in Year 10. Of the eight girls added to the program two have an SVC connection – Sophia DiVenuto is Michael’s daughter and Matilda Waddington is the daughter of the late Mark Waddington.

The Program enables the youngsters to work with elite coaches. Female Pathway Programs Natalie Schilov said “The Emerging Tigers houses our best young talent whom we think could become a contracted cricketer in the next three to five years.”

An ‘emerged’ Old Virgilian cricketer, Caleb Jewell (SVC 2010-13) has been selected for the Australian A Cricket Team to compete in two match series against a New Zealand A team in Brisbane and Mackay.
