Ash Wednesday

Last Wednesday we gathered in the church as a school and parish to celebrate Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. The students reverently received ashes on their foreheads in the shape of a cross, reminding us that we belong to God and are called to grow closer to Him. It was a special time of prayer and reflection as we began this important season together as a faith community.

Lent is a time to prepare ourselves for Easter, and the three main practices of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving are asked of us to help us prepare and build a better relationship with others and with God. During this time, we are invited to pause, reflect on our choices, and think about ways we can grow in kindness, patience and generosity.

The Grade 3/4 students reflected on this in their classes this week and wrote promises to God on the back of footprints. This symbolises how Lent is a journey.  A time where we take small, meaningful steps towards being the best versions of ourselves. Lent invites us to walk closely with Jesus as we prepare our hearts and minds for Easter.

Caritas

One of the pillars of Lent is almsgiving. Each family would have received a Project Compassion Money Box to raise money for Caritas Australia. After Easter, money boxes are to be returned to school where we will send the money raised to Caritas Australia. This year’s theme is “Growing in Hope”. This theme invites us to reflect on how we can nurture hope in our own lives and in the lives of others. To learn more about Caritas and Project Compassion, visit their website.

Class Masses

This term, each class (with the exception of Prep) will attend Parish Mass on Fridays at 9.30am. Students will be involved in writing and reading the Prayers of the Faithful.

Parents, grandparents and other family members are warmly invited to join us. The timetable is as follows:
