Term 1 2026

Overview

English

This term in English, we will focus on developing students' reading skills including decoding (Phonics) and fluency skills. Students will learn to predict and make connections to build and deepen their understanding of texts. We will also continue to develop handwriting skills, as well as speaking and listening, to support clear communication. In addition, students will practise creating retells and recounts, learning how to sequence events clearly and logically to strengthen comprehension and expression.

Maths

This term in Mathematics, we will focus on trusting the count and developing a strong understanding of place value. Students will explore mathematical patterns, including skip counting by twos, fives, and tens. They will also identify and classify shapes, create and interpret data, and examine both formal and informal methods of measuring length. A variety of methods will be used, including hands-on materials, games, and recording their thinking, to support understanding and engagement.

Integrated Studies/CyberSafety Project

This History unit will focus on families and how they have changed over time. Students will investigate the differences in family structures and roles today and how these have changed or remained the same over time. Students will have the opportunity to pose questions, analyse sources and communicate their thoughts and findings. They will investigate changes and continuities in family life and identify similarities and differences between their family and others.

Wellbeing

In Wellbeing, students will focus on our school and classroom routines, as well as our school values of respecting ourselves, others, and our school. They will have opportunities to explore friendships, develop skills to make new friends and continue positive relationships with existing friends. Students will also learn about cybersafety, including how to keep themselves safe online and how to be respectful and responsible digital citizens.
