What's On In Foundation

WELCOME
Hello from your 2026 Foundation Team, Lisa and Beth!
We are so proud of our Foundation students and the confidence they are already showing. Their bright smiles and bravery as they take on new challenges have been a joy to watch. The students have loved spending recess and lunch in the playground with their big buddies and are already growing in confidence as they settle into school routines. It has been wonderful seeing so many of the students trying new activities such as chess and soccer.
We look forward to a wonderful year of learning, enjoyment, and development together.
TERM 1 OVERVIEW
MATHS
In Mathematics, our focus is on helping children build early numeracy skills through fun, hands-on learning experiences. We place a strong emphasis on enjoyment, exploration, and developing confidence with numbers and mathematical ideas. Students will practise counting, matching quantities to numerals, and using one-to-one counting. They will also compare objects using everyday language such as longer and shorter, explore simple patterns, and learn to recognise common 2D shapes.
ENGLISH
In English, Foundation students will build early literacy skills in a fun and supportive way. Through shared reading, they will begin to learn how books and print work, as well as explore letters and sounds through Phonics Plus and SMART Spelling. Students will experiment with writing by drawing pictures and writing a simple sentence to match, practise forming letters, and learn to write their name. They will also develop their speaking and listening skills by following instructions, taking turns, and confidently sharing their ideas with others.
INTEGRATED STUDIES
This term, our Integrated Studies unit is called ‘Our Family Story’. Students will learn about families and how each one is unique. Through discussions and activities, they will identify family members, share what families do together, and create drawings and simple family trees. We will celebrate family diversity and explore family stories and special moments. By the end of the unit, students will appreciate their own families and the diversity of others.
WELLBEING
Our Wellbeing program focuses on ‘Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships’ (RRRR). This term, students will learn about our school values and SWPBS behaviour expectations, as well as how to recognise and understand their own emotions and the emotions of others.
We will also begin our Cyber Safety project, where students will learn about digital wellbeing, safe internet use, making kind choices online, and knowing which trusted adults they can ask for help.
