Book Week 2024

Marylouise Jones, Teacher/Librarian

Our Book Week bonanza is nearly here!

We are excited to announce that Book Week will be running at the College from Monday 19 August to Friday 23 August

Book Week is one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the school calendar. There is something quite magical about seeing students of all ages (and staff too!) transform into their favourite book characters. The joy of dressing up for Book Week is a celebration of the power of storytelling and literature and the impact it has on our lives.

It is fitting then, that this year's Book Week theme is 'Reading is Magic', which opens up a world of possibilities for dress ups and costumes for our much-loved Book Week parade.

In addition to the parade, the Student Resource Centre has planned a wide variety of fun and inspiring events and competitions for the week, so please take note of which activity or event applies to you.

Monday 19 August

A 'Reading Only' day at lunchtime.

Tuesday 20 August

We have acclaimed author of the Ella and Olivia series, Yvette Poshoglian visiting with our Year 2, 3 and 4 students.

Wednesday 21 August

The whole school will come together to celebrate the joy of reading. Our Senior School students will buddy up and read to the Junior School students for the 'Drop Everything and Read' event. It is always an endearing activity and strengthens the strong pastoral community the students share.

We also hold our whole-school Book Week Dress Up Parade in the Nagle Centre. Senior School students will parade at lunchtime. The Junior School Parade will commence at 1.45pm and parents/carers are warmly welcome to attend.

We are thrilled to be able to have Junior School students in costume for the entire day again this year, so if your child is escorted to and from school in a private vehicle, they have permission to attend and leave school in costume.

Students who walk or catch public transport can wear their PE uniform and get changed at school at the beginning and end of the day. Please take into consideration comfort and the variables in weather. Ensure your child stays warm with adequate layering underneath their costume, a jacket and suitable footwear for play times outside.

Thursday 22 August

The Senior School students are challenging the staff to a debate. There are more Senior School events being finalised... Watch this space for more details to be revealed soon.

Book-themed competitions:

  • Colouring-in for Kinder – Year 2
  • Poster designs for Year 3 – 4
  • Design a badge for Year 5 – 6
  • Pet-reading photo for Kinder – Year 12

Be sure to check the school notices in Connect for further details.

All competition entries are due on Friday 16 August and will be on display in the Student Resource Centre during and after Book Week. Junior School winners will be announced at Line Up on Monday 26 August.

The Student Resource Centre team has been working hard to ensure we all enjoy the spoils and fun that books bring us.

We hope you will be able to come and join in some of the excitement with us!
