Year 7 Food Technology

As we work through the semester, it is lovely to see the Year 7 class progress in skills.
The first few classes are interesting with:
"What is a fry pan?"
"How do I light a gas oven?"
"What part of the spring onion do I use?"
As the recipes progress the students learn stovetop cooking, oven baking, slicing, dicing and then presentation skills. Presentation is necessary to take pride in our food.
Dishes and hot water are an interesting combination that most students miss these day with dishwasher usage. Classrooms are handwashing and drying with a t-towel, this skill of drying seems to take the full semester to learn!
I absolutely adore teaching the junior students as it is like putting an orchestra together, you go from very little skills, to introducing ingredients, setting them up with more knowledge and then by the end I can present any recipe and they can cook it. This week we had a Chinese banquet with huge success.
Be aware parents that you children really can cook.
