Home Reading and Homework
It has been great to see so many students maintain a wonderful routine with their homework and home reading. As we know, our homework is a great way to connect our learning in the classroom to home, along with consolidating key concepts taught. Over the next few weeks at Scotsburn, we will be getting back into acknowledging our amazing home readers. Please remember to fill out our home reading diaries and bring them back into class each day.
Well done everyone, keep it up!
SC2 Grade 5/6 VSSEC Excursion Next Week - Wednesday June 3
Next Wednesday our Grade 5s and 6s will be joining 5/6BB and 5/6BW on the VSSEC excursion in Melbourne. This STEM-themed excursion takes students on a scenario-based journey that engages the students in a wide range of science activities, uses computer and communications technology and strongly encourages collaborative learning and teamwork. This excursion is always a highlight of the year.
Mr Morgan will be staying back at Scotsburn to work with the Grade 3/4 SC2 students on this day. Our 5/6s will join Mrs B and Mr White for the day.
A big reminder that students need to be at the Buninyong campus by 7:30am, and will return back to Buninyong by 4:30pm. A compass message will be sent out to parents if home times are different.
What a fun day ahead!
Scotsburn Assembly this Friday
Our next Scotsburn assembly is this Friday in the shed at 3pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
Raising Rarity Conservation Program
Last Friday the STEM scholarship students joined our Sustainability group at Scotsburn to construct our garden beds for the Raising Rarity program. This is the first step in our journey to growing and harvesting our rare plant species, called Leucochrysum albicans subspecies tricolor, more commonly known as the Hoary Sunray.
It was great to get this program up and running.
Family Groups
This week in Family Groups we harvested fresh produce from our vegetable garden and worked together to prepare delicious homemade pizzas. Most importantly, we enjoy sitting together to eat, talk and celebrate the food we have grown and created ourselves.
Blue Light Disco
This week we had our local Police Officers come and see us to promote the Buninyong Blue Light Disco, coming up on June 12th. They spoke with the group about the event & encouraged everyone to get involved. The visit created a friendly and positive atmosphere that everyone enjoyed. Thanks for coming Sgt Dash & SC Kimm.
In the Classroom
SC1
This week in SC1 we finished reading Nim's Island, and it was wonderful to see the children fully immerse themselves in the book study. They showed great enthusiasm through discussions, activities and sharing their ideas. Over the next few weeks we will be watching the film.
SC2
In SC2 we are coming to the end of our Fractions unit in Mathematics. Students have worked extremely hard to improve their skills and understanding in the areas of adding and subtracting fractions, simplifying fractions and defining common fractions. Students this week are rounding out their work by creating their own fraction games and we are planning a little fractions pizza day! Woo hoo!!!
Physical Education
Skipping through the weeks! It has been wonderful to see the skills progress through the weeks. From students that had never picked up a skipping rope to now skipping on one foot!
Morning Start Times
As we know with our new daily schedule, our morning sessions are jam packed with learning and we aim to begin our lessons right at 9am. We do a great job with this, however please continue to do your best to have your children arrive by 8:50am, so that they can get their morning routine jobs completed and be ready to start the day at 9am.
If you are running a little late for drop off, don’t forget to phone down to the Buninyong office or the Scotsburn phone so that we can update our roll marking.

Thanks so much for your assistance with this!
Scotsburn Intercampus Travel At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day. We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements. If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher. |
