I hope everyone enjoyed the extra-long weekend. While the stormy weather certainly made its presence known across the region, we hope everyone stayed safe and avoided any significant damage. For many, it also provided an opportunity to slow down and stay close to home.

Staff PD

This week, our staff came together for a School Development Day to strengthen our culture as a learning community. Rather than simply talking about “school culture,” we explored what it means to build a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment where both students and staff can thrive.

A key theme of the day was the influence of adult behaviours on the young people in our care. The way we communicate, model respect, respond to challenges, and build relationships sets the tone for our entire College. By our approach and holding high expectations for ourselves, we create a more consistent and supportive environment that reflects the values of a strong “family” setting.

We also had the opportunity for our residential and teaching staff to work alongside SSEN:BE (School of Special Educational Needs – Behaviour and Engagement). This professional learning focused on strengthening our understanding and approach to supporting students with complex behaviours. The staff discussed practical strategies to respond consistently and with care, ensuring that every student feels safe, supported, and able to engage positively in their learning and residential life.

On another note of community harmony, we have been enjoying the rise in confidence among West Coast supporters following their recent wins, though perhaps I’m slightly biased! Rest assured, we continue to support our loyal Dockers and “everyone else” fans, it’s all about balance 😊

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.
