A snapshot of learning in the 3/4 area

It has been a wonderful start to the term, with students engaging enthusiastically across all curriculum areas.

Reading: Students have been exploring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' perspectives through our class texts, Wongutha Tales and Strangers on Country. As they read, students have beenidentifying the key messages within each story and discussing their significance. These rich texts have encouraged thoughtful conversations about culture, history and the importance of understanding different perspectives.

Writing: Our young authors have been busy creating their own picture story books with a clear moral or lesson. Students carefully planned, drafted, revised and published their stories (with cool illustrations) before sharing them with our Prep and Grade 1/2 students. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their creativity, whilst also developing confidence as writers and as role models within our school community.

Mathematics: This term, students have become increasingly confident using the vertical algorithm to solve addition and subtraction problems. They have focused on the important skill of renaming and have been applying these strategies to increasingly complex problems. Connecting their learning to real-world experiences has helped students strengthen their understanding and fluency with these essential concepts.

Wellbeing: Students have been learning about win/lose situations and how our choices can affect others. Through role-play activities and class discussions, they have explored strategies for making positive decisions while demonstrating our school expectations: Be a Learner, Be Responsible and Be Safe. These activities have supported students in developing empathy, resilience and respectful relationships with their peers.

Discovery: Students have been exploring the topic of 'Australia's Early Story- Tales from the past', where we have been looking at European settlement, The First Fleet, what life was like for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders before the arrival of the Europeans, and other events in First Nations history. This topic is linking and supporting our reading and writing units this term. 

Athletics Day: The 3-6s had a fabulous time at our annual Athletics Day last Wednesday, despite the weather being cold and very wet. It was a great opportunity for our students to visit the Coburg Athletics track and participate in a number of activities for ribbons. Well done to those who participated!
