From the Principal

Dear families,
Term 4 is off to a flying start. We are delighted to welcome back Mr Jones and look forward to having him back as part of our school community, he was greatly missed.
Our Kinect2Dance program is off to a fantastic start! Dance is an important part of the curriculum, providing students with opportunities to develop creativity, coordination, confidence and collaboration. While dancing may take some students outside their comfort zones, embracing this new experience and opportunity is also part of the learning. We are looking forward to seeing the students' hard work come together in a performance at the end of the term!
A huge congratulations to our Foundation to Year 2 students who participated in swimming and a huge thank you to all the parent helpers! We were so impressed with how well the students handled the 2-week program.
2027 Classes
If you have a specific request regarding your child’s class placement for 2027, we ask that you submit this in writing. Requests should be based on your child’s academic, social or emotional needs and provide information that will help us create the most supportive learning environment for them.
Written requests should be emailed to me at anna-marie.yelland@education.vic.gov.au by Friday 6th November and titled '2027 Class request'. Please note that we are unable to accommodate requests for specific teachers. All of our teachers are highly skilled professionals with the expertise to teach across Foundation to Year 6.
Our teachers know your children well and draw on their professional knowledge and judgement when forming classes. This is a thoughtful and collaborative process that considers a range of factors, including friendships, positive learning partnerships, individual learning needs and group dynamics.
While we welcome and carefully consider parent requests, it is important to understand that these are requests rather than guarantees. Class placements require us to balance the individual needs of students with those of the broader cohort to create balanced, inclusive and supportive learning environments where every student can thrive.
COMPASS Calendar
Our main communication channels include the Compass Calendar, Compass notifications and our school newsletter. Occasionally, classroom teachers may also contact families directly via email.
To help further improve our communication channels you may have seen an addition to your Compass Calendar feed with the easily accessible 'Community Calendar.' This is where whole school activities and events will be posted including assemblies, curriculum days, P&F meetings plus many more.
The Compass Calendar is the main source of information about upcoming school events, activities and important dates. We encourage all families to check it regularly to stay up to date with what’s happening at school.
Parent/Carer Opinion Survey
A big thank you to the 95 families who participated in this year’s Parent/Carer Opinion Survey!
The survey provides valuable insight into families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and engagement. Your feedback plays an important role in identifying areas for improvement, informing professional learning and guiding our school improvement priorities. This is particularly valuable as we prepare for our School Review in Term 1, 2027, which will help shape our strategic direction for the next four years.
I was incredibly pleased with this year's results, which we recently shared and celebrated as a staff. We also took the opportunity to reflect on our trend data since 2022, which shows a continued increase in positive endorsement from our families.
We are particularly proud of the growth in positive endorsement across the following areas:
- School communication
- Promoting positive behaviour
- General school improvement
- Managing bullying
High expectations for success
These results are a wonderful reflection of the collective efforts of our staff, students and families, and the positive direction in which our school continues to grow.
We sincerely thank our families for their ongoing trust, engagement and feedback. While we are proud of our progress, we remain committed to continually reflecting, learning and improving. As we approach our School Review next term, we look forward to creating further opportunities for our community to share their perspectives and help shape the next chapter of Ormond Primary School.
Please continue reading for many more updates and important information.
With thanks,
Anna-Marie
RSL Poppy Appeal
Ormond Primary School is supporting the RSL Poppy Appeal, which raises funds to support past and current service personnel and their families.
A selection of poppies and other appeal items, ranging in price from $2 to $10, will be available for purchase.
Our Year 6 students will visit classrooms to show students the items available. Items will also be displayed at the front office for students/families to purchase.
Thank you for supporting this important cause and helping us honour those who have served our country.
TheirCare Message: Change of Leadership
Dear Ormond Primary School Families,
We would like to share an important update regarding the leadership of our service.
Ginger Lynch, our Service Coordinator, has made the decision to resign from her position with TheirCare as she pursues an exciting new career path in sales and marketing.
We are very sad to see Ginger leave and would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank her for the time, care and dedication she has given to the Ormond Primary School community. Ginger has worked hard to build safe, trusting and positive relationships with the children and families, and this has been greatly valued.
The families of Ormond have always spoken so highly of Ginger, and we are incredibly grateful for the kind feedback and support you have shown her throughout her time at the service.
While we are sad to say goodbye, we are also excited for Ginger as she begins this new chapter. We wish her every success as she explores her new career path and hope that her future adventures bring her continued happiness and success.
Welcoming Lara as Acting Coordinator
As we say goodbye to Ginger, we are pleased to welcome Lara, who will step into the role of Acting Coordinator while we recruit for our next superstar candidate.
Lara has previously supported a number of TheirCare services in the Acting Coordinator role and brings valuable experience, a strong understanding of children's needs and a genuine commitment to supporting families. She is a great communicator who is confident in addressing concerns and ensuring children feel supported, safe and included.
To help families put a face to the name, Lara's staff profile has been included with this communication for your visual reference.
Over the final two weeks of Ginger's time at the service, Lara will be working alongside Ginger and the wider team. This will provide an opportunity for Ginger to share important information, key points and knowledge about the service with Lara, helping to ensure a smooth and supported transition for the children, families and educators.
Lara has also been introduced to our Principal, Anna-Marie, and we are confident she will be a wonderful support to the Ormond community during this transition.
As a team, we remain committed to providing consistency and continuity across the service. The children are already very familiar with our educators, Hazel and Bella, who support the service throughout term time and school holidays, as well as our Area Manager, Debra.
We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding and support as we work through this transition and recruit the next suitable candidate to lead the service.
Ginger's final day was Friday, 16 October.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for being such an important part of our Ormond community.
Kindest regards,
TheirCare Management
