Holt District Athletics Carnival
On Monday the 24th of August forty St Mary’s students from Year 3 to Year 6 competed in the Holt District Athletics Carnival held at Duncan McKinnon Athletics Track. The weather was perfect, sunny with a light breeze. The St Mary’s athletes were chosen to participate through their times and distances at our school Athletics Carnival back in March. We had a number of students perform so well at this district competition that they qualified to represent the Holt District in the Beachside Division Competition in October. Everyone enjoyed the day and cheered each other on from the grandstand. The support everyone showed each other was the true St Mary’s spirit. Thank you to Mrs McDonald, Miss Broderick and Mrs Kat who made sure we made it to our events at the right time. The St Mary’s team finished fourth overall, a great effort. We wish the athletes heading to the Beachside Division the very best. From your 2026 Sports Leaders

Year 1 News
In preparation for Fathers Day, Year 1 students had fun imagining “If their Dad or special friend were an animal what they would be”. They thought carefully about the traits of their dad or special person in their life and matched these to an animal, explaining why. It was wonderful to see their creativity and appreciation for the special people in their lives.

Library News
Book Week is always one of the best weeks in our school calendar and this year did not disappoint. A big week with so much to be grateful for from author Sarah Speedie's visit, to daily teacher visits, to our multi age activities in different classrooms and of course our very special visitors many of you!
We were reading every day, experiencing new books and the joy that comes with being read to, even the seniors were quiet! All culminating in our fabulous parade showcasing our love of stories! And I am not forgetting Book Fair thank you to everyone who came through the Book Fair and purchased. I appreciate it, 15% of these sales goes towards our scholastic account, meaning we can top up book series and buy books that don't come as part of our standing order.
As we near the end of Term, it would be great to get all outstanding books back to the library. I can print lists of outstanding, email me or drop by the office on Fridays if you are unsure. Our books do have a bar code with our school name underneath them so easy to spot on the shelf! It would also be great to get any 'spare' library bags back to the library.
Some of the brand new Standing Order Books have been making their way home with students. There are new non-fiction books plus a few new chapter books. It is always exciting to get new books in hands usually prefaced with 'please keep away from dogs, water bottles and squishy bananas!'
These are not the only new books in the library, I encourage all students to really look through the shelves and read the blurb to get a feel for a book. There are also some great older books on the shelves authors like Sue Whiting, Nova Wheetman, Michael Morpurgo, Rick Riordin, Matt Stanton, these books are great to read together or for senior students to read independently. I am happy to help the students find the perfect fit.
