Happy Science Week

It has been wonderful to see Science Week come alive across Balmoral this week, with a range of engaging activities designed to spark curiosity, investigation, and a love of learning.

From social testing and plant photography to our exploration hunt, students have had many opportunities to think like scientists, ask questions, and investigate the world around them.

A sincere thank you to Lauren Tull and all our Science and support staff for creating such a vibrant week of scientific investigations and learning for all students.

Sharing Our Engagement Journey

Earlier this week, it was a pleasure to welcome long time colleagues from Indooroopilly State High School to Balmoral to share practice and reflect on our journey with student engagement.

Our walkthroughs provided an opportunity to showcase how engagement has evolved into a whole school focus at Balmoral, embedded across classrooms, subjects, and year levels rather than being the responsibility of individual teachers.

What was particularly powerful was hearing students articulate their own engagement. Students are increasingly using our Engagement Continuum language to reflect on where they are as learners, consider the behaviours associated with greater investment and driving, and identify how they can increase their learning impact.

The visit reinforced for me that our work is not simply about introducing a framework. It is about creating a shared language, shared expectations, and shared responsibility for engagement across the whole school and transform our learning culture at Balmoral.

It was also wonderful to hear from principal colleagues that Dr Doug Fisher referenced Balmoral's work with student engagement and our Engagement Continuum during his recent presentation on the Gold Coast this week. This recognition is a great affirmation of the collective work of our staff and students and the journey we continue to take together.

School Opinion Survey

A reminder to families that the School Opinion Survey has been extended for an additional week.

The extension reflects lower than anticipated parent response rates across Queensland. Your feedback is important and provides valuable insight into the experiences of our students and families.

I encourage all parents and carers who have not yet completed the survey to take the opportunity to have their voice heard.

Thank you to our families for your continued partnership and support. There is much to be proud of across our school, and it is through our collective commitment that we continue to build a learning culture where students are increasingly able to understand, articulate and take ownership of their engagement and learning.
