Book Week
This is one of the best weeks we have at school!
From Grandparent’s Morning and Book Fair to our Book Parade there is so much going on. It was terrific to see so many grandparents in and around the school on Monday morning with our students showing them around to all the different locations!
The Book Parade was (again) the highlight of the week. I saw a few Wallys, lots of Harry Potters, Mary Poppins flew right past, there was a very hungry caterpillar sliding around and those Mr Men characters were everywhere! Thanks to all who demonstrated their creativity and imagination to find amazing costumes. Each year it gets bigger and bigger and the creativity is amazing.
Thanks to Ms Soutar for the organization that went into the entire week!
YARD SUPERVISION – Before and After School
Student safety at LPS is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangement before and after school.
Before school – School grounds are supervised from 8.40am – 8.50am
After school – School grounds are supervised from 3.20pm – 3.30pm
Students on the school grounds outside of these times will NOT be supervised unless they are registered to attend Team Kids.
We are trying to have a member of the leadership team on the front and back gates at this time also.
Parents are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times.
School Attendance – Family Holidays
The Department of Education expects that students do not have time away during the school term as absence directly impacts their learning. We do understand that on unexpected occasions, family circumstances do require travel during the term. We understand that spending time with family is important, however we ask that you try to schedule this in the school holidays to ensure your child’s learning and development is not impacted.
If you do plan to take leave during the school term for a family holiday, we request that you:
1) Email the school principal to seek permission from her to attend the holiday and have the absence recorded as an ‘Extended Family Holiday - School Approved’ on: Nicola.Pepper@education.vic.gov.au
2) If the holiday is more than 5 days, the principal will ask the class teacher to put together an absence learning plan which will include some school related activities to ensure learning continues during your time of absence.
I would encourage you to keep reading every night during your time away from school – maps, tour brochures, menus, can all be great sources of information to read.
Please note: Family Holiday Leave during the school term is a counted absence and will be recorded on the student's enrolment record and semester reports.
School Attendance – Fun Days
We are continuing to monitor our attendance very closely. Our dress up ‘Wacky Wednesdays’ have been a huge hit with the students and the data supports this – our absence was the lowest on the Wednesday of each of the 3 weeks! We will finish out the term with ‘Sporty September’. Students have the option of wearing a sporty outfit on the 4th and 11th September, and it will be our annual footy parade on 18th September so students are encouraged to wear all their footy gear.
Father’s Day Stall
A big thank you to our wonderful PFA for organising and hosting our Father’s Day Stall this year. There is a lot of time, effort and organisation that goes on behind the scenes to make an event like this possible, and we are very grateful to all the volunteers who generously give their time to make it such a success.
Father’s Day is a lovely opportunity to recognise and celebrate the important role that dads and positive male role models play in the lives of our children. Their encouragement, guidance, values and support can have a lasting impact as our children grow and develop.
We hope all our dads, grandfathers, stepdads, carers and positive male role models have a wonderful Father’s Day this Sunday. We hope you feel appreciated and celebrated for all that you do for the children in your lives!
Basketball
On Thursday, the 27th of August, selected grade 6 students travelled to Jubilee Park to compete in the District Basketball Day. Langwarrin Primary School was represented with 2 girls and 3 boys’ teams. It was a fantastic day with all our students putting their best foot forward and displaying great sportsmanship. All teams worked well together. Our Pool A girls were brilliant all day, making it to the grand final. Unfortunately, they didn’t get over the line in the end. Our Pool C boys also had a great day winning all their games bar one. They were unlucky not to take the trophy home ultimately missing out by two percent.
Congratulations to all our students who participated and a big thank you to Nick, Miss Riggs, Mr Embling, Mr Balzary, Mr Coburn and Max for coaching on the day.
CAPE Toilets
Late last term, we noticed a small amount of water damage in our CAPE toilets. We initially believed this was likely due to a minor leak hidden somewhere within the underground pipework or behind the walls. As the building has been in place for approximately 16 years, this was not an issue we had encountered previously.
After further investigation, it has become clear that the issue is more significant than first thought. The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) is now working with us to address the problem and ensure the area is properly repaired.
While these works are taking place, the CAPE toilets will unfortunately be unavailable for use. We are hopeful that the toilets will be ready to reopen early in Term 4.
In the meantime, all Year 1–6 students will use our newly upgraded senior toilets. We are confident this arrangement will work well for our students while the necessary repairs are completed.
